It's GIGANTIC rear flared bumpers. It literally stretched out from the side profile you can see it.

Looks like a bulge from getting excited from this angle

Increase the weight by over 500 pounds, give torque at higher rpm, remove the dct, bring basically the same performance as last gen, annndddd give it the most unconventional styling ever. What are they smoking?

Where are you guys reading the curb weight?

The F82 wasn't much heavier than the E92 yet felt very heavy and muscle car like in comparison to the E92, which felt incredibly nimble and tossable. Hearing you guys saying this thing added 300 lbs scares me. I don't even care about the front anymore, it's blasphemy that this thing will weigh nearly as much as an E60 M5.

And now I'm worried AF that the next M2 will become a porker as well.

Wonder how much faster this will be than BMW has stated, I'm going to guess 3.5 on the AWD, maybe 3.4

For context, I believe this is my first post about the grilles, but not my first post about BMW's recent marketing campaigns.

I've heard that the opposite of love isn't hate -- it's indifference. Be glad for the hate for what you've done, BMW. It means people care deeply about BMW, ///M, and the M3 and M4 brands. Now do something about it.

It's one thing when an enthusiast forum gets out the pitchforks, but it's a whole other thing when your normally adoring global YouTube audience soundly rejects what you've done.

I'm more disappointed in the direction of your ad campaigns than the new grille design, impossible as that may seem. The ads are objectively terrible, though I won't take time here to deconstruct exactly why. I can't believe something like this even happened. How?

Ultimately, the following people are accountable for this and ought to own the consequences, good or bad (recognizing I may be wrong, they ought to get credit if credit is deserved). There are probably more. And no, it doesn't matter that decisions may have pre-dated these people assuming their roles; leaders gotta lead:
  • Oliver Zipse -- Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG
  • Domagoj Dukec -- Head of Design for BMW
  • Markus Flasch -- Head of BMW M (to the extent he has any influence over design, which he may not)
And especially:
  • Jens Thiemer -- Head of Brand Steering and Marketing for BMW
  • ...And whoever runs the global ad agency BMW selected

I want to like it, ticks so many boxes, but those same boxes are ticked in the X3 M competition I picked up recently. On a positive note the F82 is going to be a bargain very soon

You know... I was ready to move on about this... car but BMW has surprised me here. The grille? Sure it looks like shit and is primarily a poor attempt at catchup with those who already offer a larger grille for buyers who like to show off their wealth, but what the hell is this O'Reilly tacked on fender flare?! Did BMW fucking misread the respective laws on overhangs and how far the tire/wheel can come out? This looks bad, like the aftermarket truck fenders that look bolted on. Shame on you, BMW.

Ignoring the grilles and the rear fenders, it's not bad. Would not bring it home to mother but... not bad.

They are going to quote 3.6s AWD would be my guess. Knowing the typical BMW sandbaggers this car will do 3.3 / 3.4s from the factory and break 3.0s that once you OPF delete / exhaust, aftermarket air intake and ECU flash and start mixing ethanol in.

The X3M does 3.0s stock with just E50 and a ecu flash. This while still being a fat pig still weights 800 lbs less at the curb.

My E92 M...always looked back.
My M4 CS...always look back.
The new M4...not worthy of a second look.

To drop 100K on that? No way.
Man what a gimmicky attempt to grab a new audience. Surprised my stock M3CS will hold up against this crap without blinking and eye. Glad I pulled the trigger and never looked back.

Seems very targeted to the young racer crowd w big egos and no skill.

That V8 engine was the stuff of dreams (and drama). One of the best.

a couple of things to remember on US curb weight too (not directly responding to you but general FYI)
-G80 US curb weight is aligned with the HEA cars option packages, so curb weight represents basically the heaviest variant, competition with executive pack included. A consumer can add lightness by avoiding this option and adding carbon buckets. Exec pack is pretty comprehensive too, even power tailgate is included
-curb weight isn't apples to apples comparable to the previous gen car as they are snap shots based on what bmw expects to be common option groups.

Obviously current owners will have a biased view on the relative value of their asset but technological innovation of newer models has historically led to depreciation on the older ones...stating the obvious here but let's celebrate the release of the G80?

Bravo and well-said. It is quite true that leaders have to lead and should get credit, if earned, and of course, get the blame if it is deserved.

BMW, don't blame COVID-19 for poor sales if that is how this all shakes out. Truly I tell you, indifference will follow. Heads should roll if you defer blame.

It's out and it is what it is. Good luck and God speed. I will not buy this but I hope that you find an audience that gobbles this up, but is it true that a survey found that approximately 66-67% of likely Chinese buyers thought the grille looked like a Maxi Pad?

The Performance parts are horrendous for the target audience this car is intended for. The front doesn't bother me overall but I definitely don't feel the rush of excitement as previous gens.

To be honest, I'm in need of a 4 door car again and I'm seriously considering going with the Performance Model 3 or even the Y.

What made me buy the previous 2 generations of M3 and current M2c was the emotional aspect of it based on design, size, DCT tranny, rwd & engine noise/sound etc.

But with current noise policies already in effect in Canada and the lack of visual stimulation, larger & heavier, ZF Auto - I'm left pondering why exactly am I even considering a 4 door M3 again with this new iteration.

The reviews on the Tesla with upgraded suspension (Ohlins via redwood) provides significant improvements on and off the track.

This is sad to accept but 2020 has proved that our lives are never going to be the same. Leaving the BMW brand atleast for now after almost 20 years seems inevitable as of today.

1. I do not see them. 500lbs weight increase, along with slower transmission and less responsive engine are not technological innovation. Interior ergonomics appear better so I will give them that.

2. 7 years into F8x production, similar mileage wise, market value of E92 M3 slaps F82 M4's face left and right. When cars are well made, they get recognized. G8x number will speak for itself in a few years. Maybe less.
