Stock xDrive 93oct, JB4 map 1 or 2?

Hi Guys

First time JB4 user and I have been researching it quite a bit recently. I am not looking to do any custom tuning just looking for a nice jump in power without having to mess with the car too much.

Wanted to see if there is anyone here with a bone stock G80 that runs pump 93 and if they have any thoughts on running map 1 vs 2.

I understand map 2 is more aggressive than map 1, my concern if it is too aggressive for a stock setup or not.

Any input is appreciated

I was running stock for a while with jb4. I used map 2 for a while then I bought the ethanol sensor and started running map 4. I think all these maps are pretty conservative because now Im running map 6 custom and its a big difference lets say from map 2. Plus jb4 has a couple of safety features. 8k miles+ and never a problem (knock on wood).

I feel like Map 2 runs most smoothly when I run 93 octane (98 RON) with a few litres of E85. Our aussie pump gas don't have any ethanol in them. If I'm running straight 93 octane/98 RON, I stay in Map 1. It may be different in the states. I remember when I was driving an Audi R8 v10 in Connecticut and was filling up at a Chevron gas station in Norwalk, the 93 octane had 10% ethanol in them which would bump up the octane

Doesn’t work like that, they would be using junk 91/87 gas and add ing ethanol to boost to 93/98 I would rather proper 93/98 and add 10l of e85. To bring up to 102 or so octane.

Whose to say that our aussie fuels are even proper 93 AKI/98 RON. I have had an e92 335i and a f80 m3 before, both of them were tuned on MHD and BM3. The OTS maps on MHD and BM3 are customised for american fuels and when I use the 93 octane maps on straight BP ultimate, the logs weren't coming back as clean. When I added in a few litres of e85, timing corrections smoothed out. But you hear american folks never complain about timing corrections on their fuels running the OTS maps. I took to the forums back then and found out the OTS maps are a little too aggressive for aussie fuels. I think perhaps the american fuels are true 98-99 RON, whereas ours are slightly under at 97ish RON

I feel the same with the JB4 but I haven't done any proper logging to see if this is still the case. My butt dyno tells me that the car on map 2 feels noticeably better and smoother when running a few litres of e85 on full tank of 98 Ron

That could indicate that the map is too aggressive for your fuel.

You can always datalog and confirm, but you are doing the right thing by being safe.

If you are running just straight 93 with JB4, could you post draggy times if you have one? I’m just curious what it’s like on a stock vehicle because I’m toying with the idea of doing a piggyback.

Have you tried adding 5-10 litres of E85? There's a few places around Aus that sell it at the pump (United Stations). It's around 105RON
