Stock G80 at the Drag Strip + sneak peek of Eventuri Intake

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
With any project car we try to get as much baseline data as possible, this helps us as we develop products in the future. The G80 M3 Competition is no different, so we got it down to Santa Pod to see what it can do in the 1/4 mile!

We weren't just testing the standard car however, we also had the first working prototype Eventuri intake to get some initial data with.

Whats the before and after 100-200’s. They should be stored on your dragy. The launches were not great and the 60’ times were all over thr place so hard to compare.

I do have more data but we will share that in the development video we are making.

This was just something to put into the stock 1/4 mile video to remind people that one is in development.

I skimmed through the video because I am at work, but it looked like you took official time for that 11.57 and dragy time for the stock airbox times. Is that accurate?

I watched the whole video, nicely done and to the point with no bs in between runs- good editing and really impressive times at that hot track/day.

That is a really impressive launch from a RWD car with 503hp. You definitely get a better launch when you hold the launch control for a longer period of time. The staging lights dictate how long you're in launch control, so that is obviously a limiting factor.

What is your guess for the 0-60 and 1/4mi for the AWD model? The AWD launch is going to be extremely consistent.

Great content, looking forward to future videos.

The awd should launch in first gear, its gonna be a monster. I think if you let off before full boost it should dead hook

Having had 2 iterations of the new AWD system (F90 and F93) there is no need to let off at all.... just rip and go!!!

On some cars loading up the revs and boost can cause wherlspin at launch. Sometimes you can get a faster time with a quick release of the brake before the drivetrain loads up and it hooks better.

I don't think factory launch control is building boost? I could be wrong. Yeah, aftermarket tuning 100%. My GTR has a few maps with BOTL but that is all through the Software

My understanding is launch control totally builds boost in BMWs. Thsts why it shows “preparing launch control” before its fully active. Im gonna have to play around and report back in a couple months when i can do it

I believe TheStraightPipes were told by BMW engineers at a driving event that for best results Launch Control should be held for another 3 seconds or so after it says "Launch Control Active" as it takes a bit to build full boost.

Not sure what kind of difference this will really make if any, but I intend to find out once my car is broken-in and go to the drag strip.

That’s interesting. I’m going to try that. The problem is I don’t have very many good places at all to be able to do a 0 to 60 mph run.

Even if there is some boost, I can Imagine it's a lot? Few pounds at most. We deff need to find this answer.
