I suppose it differs from person to person, but I could buy a new M3/M4 with cash and not have any other debt other than my mortgage, and I still don't feel like I have reached the requisite financial threshold to drop $80k on a car. And I love cars.
I don't think there is a single answer there. Take your income minus your expenses. Do you have a reasonable amount of disposable income or saved money left over that you feel ok spending on an expensive car, when a $30k Honda Accord could serve you just as well? I'm certainly not rich by the comparison to many on here, but don't mind working harder to be able to afford some things I want.

Easily one of the most annoying "reviewers" on youtube, why cant they put someone like Chris Harris behind the wheels? Or someone who BMW enthusiasts trust, like Joe Achilles.

That is true, but at least he can tell me the technicals and whatnot, and I definitely enjoy his content way more than some youtubers

Well, Joe Achilles is also "some youtuber", just as the others. He's got no creds.

I think he delivers exactly the technical specs that I'm looking for, I enjoy his point of view, ofc I'm biased towards BMW as well, so he ain't exactly influencing my buying decision

I would be shocked if it isn’t causing issues with normal type of events. On the other hand handing the keys to a proper reviewer for a day shouldn’t be a violation of any COVID protocols.
Yes, especially since BMW is still taking our money and running ///M Track days stateside, so I think that excuse might be questionable

When I was at track days in Sept they talked about how they'd be cleaning the cars between each driver. There was none of that. We were supposed to keep our masks on even though we were the only person in the car.

Yes, I was at Monticello mid August for track days and they even had 2 drivers per car then we switched. I'm not sure about the cleanings in between though but thought I saw some. In any event, tge point is they could really do it if they wanted to I'm sure..

It's very interesting to me that BMW M division is trying to appeal to a much younger and wider population. As someone pointed out at 100k+ for a car most people would at least be in their early 30s - kind of like the Porsche customers. I'm not hating - I am also an "elder" millennial but I have a very good job and own 4 BMWs (two of which are M). I will likely end up getting the new M4 but seeing some YouTube "influencer" advertise it to me is not good marketing IMO..

Can’t argue that. You must be so excited about your new car, For me it would be comparable with getting my first M3. Maybe one of the last chances to be that excited again, if only I could justify $200k . How long do you need to wait, did you beat the crowd or are you looking at 2 years before delivery of the TTS?

I am indeed quite excited, but also a bit nostalgic for leaving ///M behind. I really love my M4cs. What they did to the G8X pushed me over the edge though. My wife also strongly encouraged me to take the leap as I am turning 50 next year. I am looking at a summer 2021 delivery. I could have had a May production but I am still hoping for a possible ED, so I took a June production. I am going for the base TT and not the -S though. I figure 572hp in a ~3,500lb car should be plenty and save me ~22k USD over the TT-S. We are getting rather sweet pricing in Canada, my build added up to 165k USD which includes ~18k USD of options (mostly took the go-fast goodies like S-PASM, PDCC/PVM+, CF roof+mirrors, Sport exhaust, wider wheels, Race-Tex steering wheel). Not getting much of a discount off MSRP though.

That’s so awesome! Euro delivery is still a $0 proposition I guess? And welcome to Porsche where discounts from msrp are more often than not symbolic. The cars though...wowsa.

I’m taking the Cayenne in for yearly oil service and repair of the central lock on one of the rear doors on Friday. Wish me luck to leave with a sub $1k bill...

Yes zero cost to me, and you get one night hotel stay, shuttle service and a track day at Leipzig with a loaner car similar to the one you purchase. The big drawback is the 6-7 week wait for the car afterward, which would cut my track season short. But I figure it worth the experience, I really enjoyed ED with my 2015 M4. Decent discounts in my area are possible on "off the lot" cars without waiting lists and on SUVs. On the hotter ones, like you said, symbolic.

The Chris Harris/ Porsche video is excellent. Considering the 996 GT3 the Porsche chap references the e46 M3 CSL - high praise indeed.

Yes indeed, those were the days when a practical daily driver M3 was a rival to a 911 GT3. No longer the case today...

Sorry OT

Chris Harris driving his old GT3 RS 4.0 in the cold UK winter is still my favourite video. The car is so visceral, so full of life, so basic in its delivery of power and effort. My apologies on the messy link
