I drive it hard. every day.

Anyone else in the same camp? Love driving my m3 comp. And drive it very aggressively at most opportunities. Do you think the m3 can put up with being driving hard on a daily basis? And I’m not tracking it. It’s just hard street driving. Gunning it on on-ramps. Taking corners with speed. Pretty much to the limit of what street driving allows (while driving with sanity, I’m not weaving in and out of people. Just making use of open spaces when available).

Dude, with that behavior you're barely getting the oil warm. The only thing you're wearing with that behavior is tires.

You're FINE. Because it can do this...

Yeah the car is yawning at that kind of driving. I took it to an autocross this past weekend and the car temps were as if I just took the car to Costco and back.

Nah man you should definitely drive it around in the efficient / d1 all the time. Six months from now you can post in the “break-in service” thread about you’re finally about to hit 1200 miles 🥱

But yeah, OP, attacking on and off ramps in sport mode is light work for the M3/M4.

are you slamming the brakes? as you come up to stoplights? You don't mention this... if you wanna go fast, you gotta slow fast!

i have to do this on mine to prevent the squealing when pulling up to a light. caught the attention of a motorcycle cop who followed me for a good 2 miles before blipping the lights a split second before diverting away

Yeah I get in the brakes hard at time. I also stomp on them to stop the squealing noise now and then

I personally like to slam my brakes on and scare mom behind me when she is taking her kids to the zoo. F the track I take it to the offramp by Del Taco.

These threads are funny. You can thrash an econobox a hell of a lot harder on the street than a 510hp M3.

Nothing worked harder than my first car, a manual 60hp Holden Barina (Opel Corsa) when I was 17.

Yes that’s the way to drive an M3 …hard….if you like to rev up your engine change oil at 3-4K intervals not wait on maintenance minder

Generally I’m just wondering about longevity. But seems like everyone says consistently driving hard has nearly zero effect on long term health of the car.

Is this even a real thing? Seems like modern oils should have no problem making it to the maintenance reminders.

Seems like generally people avoid buying used performance cars, due to people driving them hard. However the consensus seems like m3 doesn’t care about being driven hard.

yes it's a real thing there's threads over about it in the oil subforum

the oem oil is 0W30 and way too thin

they used it to meet fleet fuel economy and emissions regulations. oil analysis has shown that if you do drive your car decently hard and/or track it the oil will wear down halfway through bmw's recommended oil change interval

either change the oil more or switch to a better oil like 5w40

Zero effect? No...there will be some effect for sure, especially on consumables like pads, tires, clutch (if manual), etc. And the car is a machine like any other, so things will break over time with wear and tear. I could have the exact same lawn mower as my neighbor, but if I use it weekly to cut my grass and my neighbor's kid uses his 10x a week to cut a bunch of lawns in the neighborhood, his lawnmower is going to wear out faster than mine. So nobody is saying zero effect. What we're saying is the M3 is engineered to withstand anything you are legally throwing at it on spirited street driving without falling apart, so if you're worried you're breaking your car because you take on ramps hard every day, you're not. Enjoy your car and stop worrying about hurting it. It's more fun that way!

That said, nobody knows for sure the true long term reliability of the S58 because we haven't had enough time to get there. I predict it will be the same as most modern cars...deferred or neglected regular maintenance will have a far more detrimental effect on the health of the car compared to someone simply driving it hard (frequent tracking excluded).
