Another shoutout for M Perf Center

I took delivery back in March of G82 in Spartanburg, SC. The day before that I spent 3hr with private coaching in G82 Comp. Since then have autoX and tracked my manual G82. I applied my Drivers Package 1-day M School towards more private coaching instead and just finished 2 days of 3hr each again.

Will keep it brief, the car rocks. But more importantly, the coaches (I worked with Rafael) are awesome. These guys know what they are talking about and will design sessions around your goals, interests, and skill level. It's my opinion that anyone owning an M3/M4 needs at least 3hr with one of these coaches. It's not cheap but it's 3hr seat time and easily more productive than any track day.

Happy to go into more details, but definitely consider this option if you can!

I had the same instructor a few years ago. One of my favorite moments was him saying "would you like to try drifting around the entire track? I'll show you if you say that I was the one driving"

Needless to say it definitely didn't look like him driving but I learned a lot and nailed a few corners at least. He had so much energy that really came through when you did something he was happy about. 10/10 would go back again

I did not know that this was an option! I would like more details, cost, etc. thanks. PM is fine if you don't want to tell the whole world.

Is the coaching in-car, or lead/follow? Do they (aside from drifting) let you do it without DSC on?

I haven't gotten my notification yet about my free school, bought the car in May. Oh wait... no, I didn't get the Drive's package option, so I guess all I'll get is maybe a half day M school thing.

You can call the Performance Center and ask if you're eligible for a free 1-day car control clinic (the value of which can be used as a voucher to any other thing they offer, including private instruction). Lead-Follow would be the norm, DSC only off on the skid pad (advanced M school had DSC off only on the autocross section--and skid pad).

They're also starting up a drifting program at Thermal.

My Driver's Package included the higher speed limiter and a 1-day M School. I know there is also a "new owner half day event" but that is significantly more casual and more tour / demonstrations.

Private coaching runs $400/hr, excluding an hour for lunch. For me, 3hr booked for each day with 2hr driving, then 1hr lunch, then 1hr driving....this is a LOT - I physically could not do much more. You only take breaks from driving if you need it, so it is mentally taxing. They tailor the experience to your skill level. Did some lead-follow for 3-4 laps, then had instructor in car with me. He would switch to MDM or lower traction, or no traction, depending on how well I was doing over time. If your goal is to explore laps with DSC off, you can certainly push hard with it on and feel when it kicks in, then as you improve control such that it intervenes less then the instructor likely will reduce traction for you.

It's far from a 'sales pitch' or teaser event. The instructor will find your skill limit and help you improve from there, quickly.
