Port Installed Options

I got word back from my CA, the CF Splitter is $2650 (their cost) and CF door sills are $335, both of which I had added to my car. I don't know what the mark up is or if that's really cost but I can only go off what I'm told.

IND lists the CF front lip for $2460 and the CF door sills for $284. You're definitely paying a premium but I suppose that is basically going to be paying for the labor to install them at the port. I'll instead be paying the IND prices (minus a little discount) and installing myself.

they're installed prices and for labor that's not bad at all as mentioned. one dealer who I will not name quoted me upwards of 4 digits on labor so I'm playing it safe. Normally labor at a dealer is $100-150/hr for reference.

The lip is no doubt a bit difficult to install and a bit time consuming given the removal of some factory pieces and then installing the four separate pieces that make up the lip.

The door sills should be a quick 5 minute swap though.

You can have the dealer send you a new copy of your VIR with invoice price included, that will tell you how much they are marking up the PIA options.

CF door sills look amazing. $335 is a bargain for those.

When did they start charging labor for port installed items?

I don't think that they technically do but how else could you explain the price variance between what AndroidRobot is paying versus what IND is selling them for? Unless the dealership has marked them up for added profit…which, could very well be possible.

As stated above, $284 via IND…even more of a bargain.

Benefit of having them installed at port is they are added to and included in the window sticker (MSRP) which should help with resale value and definitely helps when leasing as they are then residualized in the lease.

agreed, the sills should be fast but it'll save me the time and I won't miss $60 plus no paying for shipping.

edit: waiting for my CA to send it over

Those are the correct factory prices for port installed. BMW will also sell you the parts directly, at a slightly lower price, because they are not including installation.

Seems fair to me.

I pinged my CA to see if there was a different price on the splitter just to see if it's standard or not. I'm on the fence on adding it, but figure better to do it at port vs. later on.

As an FYI to those adding these, port installed also includes some markup fluff, typically more than the 6.5% invoice that factory options have, if negotiating toward or past invoice price... not that todays market is supporting those kind of deals

Port installed has another major benefit as well, they count as a full factory option
-covered by full new vehicle warranty, not aftersales warranty
-residualize into lease like any other option on the vehicle

+1. A very attractive selling point. And why BMW (and other manufacturers) know they can get away with exorbitant pricing on cosmetic items. The business model is equivalent to the candy bars at the cashier aisle in a grocery store - the highest profit margins in the store for a fraction of the bill you were already planning to pay.

What's the deal with port installed options? I keep seeing and hearing about it, but how and why would you get things installed at the port?

And does the car come with door sills standard?

your dealer can add them to your order either when you place it up to X numbers of days before the boat arrives at the VPC (I do not know the value of X, i think it is 5-6 typically, but there have been stories of dealers calling literally right as the car is arriving to get stuff added).

BMW DOES NOT publish an easy to digest catalog of what is available, like the order guides for factory options. (tho i wish one of our dealer friends would every month or so just copy paste their screen into a sticky post)

thanks for the confirmation, I suppose my car will eclipse the 6 figure mark now... well almost I believe it'll have a $99,930 MSRP if I'm calculating things correctly

Yeah, I'm not even sure what other options are available. I already knew way more than my SA.

If I remember correctly, I liked the "M4 Competition" door sills. If those come on it, I'm good with those.

I'm with you. I'm $102,895 and my SA bumped me $5k with BMWFS, when he submitted my application, in case I wanted to add anything else.

Add the all weather floor mats to get over the hump...
my favorite PIA option on a lease because you only have to pay for ~42% of the cost were most ppl buy aftersales at retail price... port installed on lease still cheaper than aftermarket brand!
