I think BMW's A/C system is somewhat weak when comparing to competition. My wife's last Mini and current X5 had/have terrible A/C. Cooling seats in X5 are not that great. I barely feel anything when it comes on. I do believe their last great A/C system ended around 2006 when they introduced E90s.

Ventilated seats work as advertised. I have climate rules set up in my G05 X5 to automatically heat below 45F and ventilate above 65F. Regardless of the heat/humidity level or length of trip, I emerge dry and comfortable. I appreciate the ventilated seats are so unobtrusive, not unlike seat heating at its lowest setting.

jonhak, I stand corrected. Ventilated seats in my 2019 Maccan not AC.
xlover gave very good explanation….not sure why experiences on ventilated seats seems so varied.

Ventilated seats are a must have for me. Not a fan of swamp ass.

I thought so too--coming from 3 Corvettes where the A/C would work in a frozen meat locker. I changed the setting to full upper ventilation and it made a huge difference. A/C--especially on Max, is great now. Have to turn it down to Auto 65 in a few minutes even on 90+ degree days. Under Climate Control, Heating Ventilation, set Temperature Adjustment to full blue. Significantly lowers upper ventilation. Will set back to mid level for the cold months. Would have ordered ventilated seats. Prefer driving with the windows down, and in 80ish temps, would be a nice feature.

I was extremely underwhelmed on the G80. They are pretty much useless until the car gets cold and even then meh.

Ugh, I go back and forth every day.
It does give natural ventilation and reduces the surface area of hot leather touching your back. I also went with Silverstone seats which are going to be cooler than black or even kylami orange.

I had them on my F06, but couldn't get them on my G20. I always felt as though they didn't do much on my F06, but now without them I realized they did help. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing like the cold feeling of truly cooled seats, but its still good to have.

Even in winter, after driving my G20 long enough I always end up checking if the seat heaters are on accidentally due to the heat buildup (they never are). I never had this issue in my F06. On really hot days, my back sweats on the leather now, but in my F06 my back just stayed warm. On cooler days is when I miss the ventilated seats the most as that's when they actually felt cool while running.

I would prefer true cooled/AC seats, but given the option I would still take ventilated over nothing in my climate.

Living in Louisiana I use them almost every day at some point, and I'm impressed with them. No, it's not air conditioned seats, but it does the job it's supposed to do and I certainly feel the difference on 90+ days. I don't have that back sweat feel when I get out after driving in the hot sun. Well worth the cheap cost since I wasn't getting the carbon seats anyways.

I'm really happy I got the ventilated seats. They come on based on temp and I never feel sweaty in the seat. They aren't some AMAZING cooler that chills you down from the heat, but they do make it more comfortable for sure. Instead of pushing cold air, they pull air away from your body. I notice that it works better if I lift my back from the seat a little if I want to get the full effect. Not something you would do while actually driving. For the price they are well worth it IMHO.

How did you set them to come on based upon temp? I cannot figure that out.

Now, I did figure that out in my wife's x7 though.

For $300, its a no-brainer. I didn't get to spec my M3 myself, but glad whoever specced it added the Vent Seats.

It does its job, I don't really have a point of reference, but on a scorching hot day, it takes a few minutes to cool your back to comfortable levels.

For $300 it really is a no brainer if you deal with a hot climate ^

It helps me cool down quite a bit after a sweaty gym session or whenever I place tennis

Thanks for all the responses fellas.

I should clarify that I'm debating between carbon buckets and ventilated standards (no question that I'll be opting for vents if I go standard).

On one hand, I live in Texas, but on the other hand I feel that the buckets really add a layer of specialness (I'll be honest this thing is going to see 1-2 track days per year max).

Have only a few days left to decide as I'm now scheduled for production.

I opted for ventilated seats and don't regret it. I just took my car to the Nurburgring and I did not feel like I was sliding around in my seat... Was I as secure as the buckets, absolutely not, but I wasn't flying all over the place either.

Also, everyone is saying that the air is sucked into the seats, I feel like air is blowing out when I put my hand on the seat to feel for it..

At the end of the day, Texas is hot as shit, buuuuuuut those seats are badass looking. I sat in them for about 10 minutes and they were ok. I'm glad I went with the standard seats though... again, no regrets.

Good luck!

In my experience, there's a lot of variance between the manufacturers, and even models, so I'm curious to hear impressions.

Thanks!
It cools my coolie this summer so far… I'll let you know if it heats them up in the winter

Turn them on, then put a tissue on the seat. It's hard to tell what direction the air is going unless it's a lot of air.
