FYI Since the last OTA update (which I believe was in May) I have not had this issue at all and I use Waze or Apple Maps 100 percent of the time.

Really hope this is the fix for everyone else.

Brand new M3 over here has this issue.
iPhone and iDrive are up to date. Last night when I checked the BMW App, it showed my car parked at a neighbouring house. BMW nav works fine. iPhone works fine when not connected to car.

Things that do not solve the problem:
• Turning wifi on and off on iPhone
• Resetting/rebooting iDrive interface (holding power button until off)
• Rebooting iPhone
• Force-quitting Waze, Apple or Google Maps
• Connecting wifi manually after car startup
• Having Waze location setting on 'All the time' (that was my original setting anyway)

Anything I haven't tried?

Rebooting iDrive 3-4 times worked SOMETIMES.

This is what I did to fix this issue in my car… ensure Waze or whatever GPS app you want to use is only running in iDrive8, and not on your phone at the same time. I noticed that when the app is running in both my iPhone and in iDrive at the same time, the GPS goes fucking nuts after a couple of minutes. Just quit the app in your phone and that’s it, reconnect if needed.

Give it a try, hope this helps!

Just want to bring this back up. I'm not having this issue but only if I turn on BT on my V1 or R8 w/ a companion app, anyone having any similar situation?

I'm on 03/2023.50 and this only started happening once I started using a companion app w/ BT with my Radar Detectors.

I’m very surprised we haven’t seen an update from BMW yet. I’m getting irritated. LOL

Having the same issue using Waze. 2023 running 03/2023.53 and I check periodically for software updates.

Have to disconnect CarPlay and use phone only when needing directions. Incredibly frustrating.

A restart of iDrive usually fixes this for me when it happens now. Hold the volume mute/knob for like 30s until it completely goes black/restarts. You can do this while the car is moving too, it'll keep your gauge cluster up at a minimum for the speedo and tach.

Our local dealer here in Costa Rica just found a temporary fix to the problem. They are going to disconnect (or turn off) the factory GPS of the car, everything indicates that the conflict that generates the problem is between the cell phone's GPS and the pre-installed GPS of the car.
In the last week they have carried out tests and the result has been satisfactory, all this while BMW finds a final and definitive solution to the problem.
In Costa Rica, only Waze gives traffic reports, therefore, disconnecting the car's GPS does not affect much, BMW navigation system does not offer anything more than a map without information of any kind.
Hope this helps in some way

The new update rolling out, 07/2023, supposedly has a permanent fix for this issue.

I've been running it for about a week now and haven't had any issues. See if your dealer can load it.

I have a 2024 x6 with idrive 8. Phone is using ios 17.0.2. When connected to CarPlay, map position is off, sometimes by miles. As soon as I disconnect CarPlay, the map location shown on the phone is immediately updated to the correct location. Sometimes this location problem exists and sometimes it doesn’t but it did seem to happen when iOS 17 was installed.

What iPhone are you using, it seems like iPhone 14 has a lot of connectivity issues with the iDrive

I had it with iOS 16, it's not an iOS 17 problem.

Bring this up to your dealer and see if they can get iDrive 8.5 loaded, that should be available for your car now.

Yes, this was actually all solved by leaving my car at the dealership for >24h to do a software update. Took a long time. They couldn't tell me how long the update would take, but at least it worked.

No problems since.

Hope it did solved it, but it is too early to claim victory IMO, good luck and hope this is the end of the problem.

It’s been over 2 months and almost 5000km since any issues.
