I have RWD because at the time it was impossible to get an allocation for one in my area. Was on a list for like 8 months. Cancelled and found a RWD sort of local. I came from an F90 and never really benefited from having an AWD other than launching which i never do and it never snows here. Any lightly used AWDs were close to 100k at the time so i opted for a RWD Comp for a nice 20 grand cheaper. Im just a joe blow blue collar worker so price was a big factor for me. But i have no regrets. My buddy has an AWD and i could care less when he likes to remind me his is AWD.

Put deposit down today. My local dealer in Grand Rapids MI does not have a current allocation but I am first on the list. I expect to get a 2024 and I don't expect to see if for a year.

Went with 2 wheel drive Competition. I can make changes up until the time the order goes in. Likely 8 months or so.

I have RWD because X-drive was not available for 2021 but living in FL, it is not really necessary. Sure you will have some traction issues at times and especially once tires wear down or it is wet. Not worth it to me to ditch it and get an Xdrive especially with the price increases since then. If I was to get another G80 when lease is up, I would probably opt for it to see the difference but I could see myself keeping this one for a bit longer.

I grew up in GR. For fun I just looked at the local dealership. Wow. Massively low inventory vs. what I'm used to seeing at the Portland dealerships. Is it just a really small dealership? I wouldn't have thought that it would be that small.

Say hi to the river for me!

I drove my x-drive around in RWD mode yesterday for the first time with traction control set to 5. It was really weird. It immediately transported me into my e46 m3 at first. What a lovely feature.

You won’t notice a difference unless you’re absolutely hammering the car.

Im blown away how well my 6MT manages traction out the corners.

Car is so poised.

Agreed, much better especially when comparing to the F8X.

The F8X comp was better but the pre-lci F82 I had could not put down the power well at all.

I've been thinking and reading everything I can get my hands on about this. I changed my order to the XDrive this morning. Just seems too good. Times change, rear wheel drive just can't compete with this anymore, imo.

Good man.
Correct choice.

P.s. drove my car in RWD mode today in the rain.
Loads of fun.
Afterwards, just push the button, and you are a rocket on rails again.
Freedom of choice, who can say no to that?

Going with the RWD here. Mostly because coming from E92 and F82, AWD was never something that I was used to and also with the savings I could get the CF seats and CF package… sometimes you can’t just have it all. Happy with the decision.

The only reason to not get Xdrive is for the manual trans. If you aren’t interested in the manual, definitely get Xdrive.

X-Drive is rear biased. 100% power is sent to the rear wheels by default, so all street driving characteristics of RWD is carried over to the X-Drive. Even with AWD enabled, it will oversteer just like my M3 CS did. There is no reason at all to turn off AWD other than for drifting on the track and I have never felt the need to turn it off on the street because there is no legal way to take advantage of it. I do not feel any difference whatsoever even if I push it a bit in the canyons. Guaranteed if you are doing this on the freeway, it's simply not an issue or it will be the placebo effect.
Here’s the answer.
Turn out the lights, we can all go home now.

I'm not an AWD fan. I've had it before. It's boring and feels too easy. I would never use AWD if I bought an X Drive model.

RWD is for purists...

obviously you want x-drive so you don't hydroplane when you're doing 90 on the freeway.

Lmao too soon !

And to answer OP’s question, it’s RWD Comp for me. And yes I will feel the extra 150lbs She’s a heavy girl as is , if I can save a bit of money + a decent amount of weight .. why not

Live in L.A , don’t care about 0-60 or red light shenanigans. But it really depends on your wants & needs , along with where you live.

Not much of a track rat but I regularly hit up Angeles Crest. Started going with sport bikes at a young age & now just hoon it in my M cars.

Spent a lot of time on Angeles Crest myself in the 90's. Ended up starting a track day for people to come to Willow and ride called Fastrack Riders. Raced a few years with WSMC and WERA ... good old days!
