track straps just for show

Does anyone have front decorative/color match tow straps that are just for everyday show and not for use. I would like to see some pics to see if I want to get them. Thanks

No more issues than just the regular cover without the slot for the strap itself. 🤷🏻

I got my through IND and the worked with Fall-Line to do the color matched strap. Turned out really well. Took a long time to get but it was worth it.

I'm assuming that the IND/Fall-Line straps are functional right? They are required at my local track. I can imagine the color matched covers will just get destroyed if I never need to actually use the straps. But then again, if I need to use the straps, the little covers are the least of my worries.

Do those nylon straps flap around at high speeds, causing damage to the clearcoat?
I like the look - although I never track my car.

I guess it depends on how stiff the strap material is.
I'd hate to have marring to the paint, or PPF in my case.

No damage to the car so far. Never even crossed my mind about it either, tbh.

On the IND photos (with the painted color cover) it looks like the strap barley sticks but on some of these pics it looks like it hangs out a lot farther than what IND shows

To be honest when you track your car, these little things don't really matter since the car is going to get pummeled with rocks and debris anyway. They use straps because they are lighter than metal hooks.

Regardless, I like to use metal folding hooks, but then you risk it swinging back and hitting the paint. In which case I use rubber stoppers.

I noticed that was well once I actually got mine. I've made sure it was screwed in all the way though. I have a feeling that IND might have just tucked the strap in a bit more in their photos.

Can confirm, IND mentioned this to me when I asked about it. Apparently some people use zip ties or perhaps rubber bands to keep the strap from coming all the way out, which is something I would probably do as I think it looks better more tucked in and would also keep the strap from hitting the paint.

I'd be mortified if someone asked me what tracks I go to and I said the straps are 'just for show'

I suppose you could tuck the strap in more behind the cap or even hide it completely behind the stock cover when not in use if you like. For me, however, the straps serve a functional purpose as some tracks/events require tow hooks be present for participation. Moreover, if you’ve seen the size of the hooks used to connect to these straps you’d be wise to allow as much clearance to hook up as possible—the hooks are thiiick. I’d be more worried about the tow tech trying to fit the hook through a tight opening and scratching the paint than the strap itself causing any visible damage to the paint, which it won’t. Then again, my girl’s freckled face is FUBAR from a few hundred track miles anyway so microscopic scratches are the least of my concerns.
