Leather dash question, wrinkle or water damage
Hey guys! So i just noticed a mark on my leather dash, does this look like natural wrinkling or water damage? Idk how it would have even gotten water damaged, I personally ceramic coated the car maybe 2 months ago, if it’s wrinkling I’m fine with it but would getting tints done like 3 months ago magically have water damage appear from back then?
What do you guys think? |

Every time I’ve had my cars tinted I’ve seen the installation guys put towels all over everything to avoid this….
Anytime someone is going to work on your car. I would take a bunch of pictures and video before you drop it off because then you can go back and make them pay for that.

Yup, definitely water. I took pictures before getting my windows/windshield tinted for this exact reason.

Yeah word of advice to future owners: take pics and video of dash and door trim and generally the entire car before getting it tinted. The A pillars are very absorbent and are in contact with the leather dash and the dash WILL pick up water.

Damn, I was hoping this was just some natural occurrence, I got the tints done like 3 months ago idk how I just noticed it now, the corners where the a pillars are all look great, it’s just this one part
It sucks because they do put towels down, so maybe one got super wet and it went through it Definitely bummed, yall know if there is a way to make it look a little bettr? In person it does look a lot better than in this picture |

You can try getting one of those 1” wide leather rollers and start at the grill where it’s not a bad and go back and forth across the wrinkle with light pressure and increase pressure little by little and see if it settles down. Sometimes a little bit of steam is used, but at this point as bad as these panels are with moisture, it would hold off on the steam part. I don’t think it’s the leather as much as whatever’s under it that’s doing this. It very well could be the panel material or even the glue they’re using because I think due to enviro shit, more car manufacturers are being forced to switch to water based glues, so it very well could just be that, in which case, a bit of moisture and re-flattening with the roller might work.

Since you live in SoCal man. I would consider finding higher end upholstery shop and at least asking them what they think before messing with it too much. It easy to make worse.
