I went back and forth on going commando or just with the black M240i and no xDrive.

I too prefer the model being displayed, not that I think the M240 is highly respected or anything, but I think no model displaying looks odd - I always think this when I see debadged cars on the road. I like my cars to look like they could have came out of the factory with the mods.

OP, your car looks good and it flows, but I think the black M240 would finish it off nicely.

Can the badges be removed after a ceramic coating? Or will this necessitate having the coating re-applied?

Of course, but where the adhesive was there will be no ceramic coating (as you realized).

Would that be very noticeable? I do not want to have to polish or other aggressive measures to remove any potential shadow lines/marks.

Do I need to just apply some ceramic coating to the newly exposed area?

I'm not a ceramic expert, but you may be able to apply a coat over the area and then smooth it out, Im assuming it wouldn't be noticeable
