I’m guessing someone probably has asked in the last few years but figured I would try before potentially pulling the trigger and making the change…. What are your thoughts on going from a F86 X6M to an 23’ Xdrive G80 Comp? Would be the first time in a long time not having an suv but the xdrive would be nice to have on the G80…. Open to anyone’s thoughts ☺️

I mean, you're going from a V8 to an I6, I would think it's not 100% worth it, especially if you like the way the F86 looks and the slightly more practicality you get.
That being said, the G80 is so good. I personally hate the X6 looks, so I would trade it in a heartbeat if it were me lol. |

A lot of us have come from V8 F9X platform (I had an F92 previously), I could not be happier I made the switch. I think the larger change would be going from SAV to coupe, in which case the question to OP is.. what are your motives for the change? |

You title says "... F86 to G82", but your post talks about the G80. I think it really depends on what you're looking for. I would have never cross shopped the G80 with something like an X6M, so my naturally biased opinion is that it would be obvious to go G80. Personally, I find the look of these X4 and X6 cross-overs as not great and much prefer the sedan sports-car look (e.g., like sedan touring cars).

I, as well, came from a G05 M50i to the G83, I do miss the V8 sometimes, though. My decision was more of I didn't need all that practicality and would have rather traded it for what I have now.

Thank you to you who have responded! I did make the mistake in my title of G82 when I assumed 80 would be the 2 door coupe and 82 would be the 4 door.. My bad…. And to answer one of the previous comments about what I seek, very valid question.. First and fore most, my child isn’t a little anymore so I don’t think I specifically seek the cargo room and extra SAV space per say but do have this love for the sportiness and what not of the 4 door aspect of the G80 with the balls of the other to some extent…. Will be interesting to see how it feels tomorrow.. wife has a new GV70, we have a C7 Z06 and I’m pondering the above mentioned…

Having said that, with one kid, and not being small and needing a bunch of clobber, you can definitely downsize. I just went the opposite route...went from a 911 to a G80 because my kids are both teens, and we are all tall. My daughter is already 5'6", my wife is 5'10", I'm 6'2" and my son is 6'5". So not only do they no longer fit in the 911 rear seats (believe it or not they used to), but my son doesn't even fit in the front. So I wanted something more useful. IMO, it's very hard to beat the G80 as a total package. Is it perfect? No. But it's fast as hell, can be very sporting when asked, practical, we all fit, the trunk is good sized, it has very solid tech (maybe not class leading but close) and it's just fun. Way more fun than an SUV. And not that much less comfortable or practical 90% of the time. Given you still have an SUV in the garage, I'd do it without any hesitation. |
