Just wanted to bring awareness. I had my G80 parked in Hoboken parking Deck connected to the hospital. It was stolen at 4:30am and entered in to Staten Island, NY at 4:50. I had all keys tucked away in a condo far from the garage…. Seems like I was targeted because no one else was touched. Sucks to happen Christmas weekend but I hope everyone else stays safe.

Very sorry to hear about this. It seems this has been a recurring theme and strong trend in the NYC metro, but NJ specifically.

Probably a good idea at this point for other G8x owners in northern NJ to invest in some sort of physical security mitigations, like the old club from the 90s...or a manual transmission.

Do you always park in the same spot? Was it a public parking where anyone can go in and out? There had to have been cameras.

Yes it’s a public garage and I always park on the same level. I’m just waiting on the footage of the car leaving and letting the police do what they can at this rate.

This is too close to where I am normally.

My friends charger got stolen in queens few weeks ago. Recovered after 3 days of joy riding. They went as far as tinting the windows to go joy riding.
Cops found out they broke the glass and jumped in. Breaking glass didn’t set off alarm. Once they got in, they hooked up to the computer and boom started and gone.

Update:

Spoke with a detective. The people who stole my car came in a Blacked out white Dodge Durango. They drove into the gated public garage with a vehicle with no plates or stolen… I forget which of the two. Then they drove out with my car and the Durango 5mins later. They couldn’t make out anyone involved. I find it a little ridiculous that the Durango wasnt a red flag when it pulled in. Just for reference, the garage has someone on staff at all times and is equipped with license plate scanner upon entry…. Just sad.

They also mentioned that this is the 4th M3 in my town…

Many years ago, I used to park in Hoboken and either stay local or cross over; based on this, I am going to opt out of driving my G80 into the area.

Again, sorry to hear about your setback. And I assume that they have not recovered your car so this will be a total loss. Are you contemplating getting another G8x or do you think you'll select a different vehicle so as to minimize the chance of a repeated incidence?
