Thanks for the feedback guys. Does anyone know the paint code for these calipers. I think I will definitely do it. The gold looks too damn good on the FDG.

Agreed. Seems that people want CCB's just to show off
Or it could be that some aren't offended by the price and just want to spec their car with the latest braking technology available while also benefiting from reduced unsprung mass and reduced brake dust. I'll never another new car with steel brakes again.

Yep, go for it CH.

And post the result will you mate? I might look at doing it to my FDG G80CX too... its a smaller, cheaper mod than the gold 1000M rims I am considering (that also look cool on FDG).

You're using those brakes for what it is intended to.

Under normal circumstances, meaning where 90% of M drivers will their their M car on, which are public roads, they WILL make noise. They aren't meant to be on the street. They're for track use. They're meant to take a beating without brake fade. You do not need CCB's for the street, ever. It's pointless.

And they make a shit ton of noise.
Lol you're telling me my brakes make noise but when I drive my car that has CCBs to go get groceries they make no noise

Limegrntaln also has CCBs, do you notice any noise?

Not a peep out of mine. Of course, now that I'm saying it, they will start squealing like mad. I enjoy not having to deal with brake dust. That's almost worth the price of admission, for me.

I have caught myself a few times needing them to work, well, in Mexico, and they have actually scared me a few times. I've had brakes on previous cars, stop harder the more you push them to the floor. Not these. They just brake consistently, and for me, that's a little scary sometimes. Like people say, they need to be heated up to work well. I find that under normal street driving, even a few trips to Mexico, they apparently don't get hot enough to put me through the windshield, like I thought they would. Also, the last time I was on them, good. I felt myself pushing the pedal pretty far in, and not getting any better result. It makes me want to switch to stainless brake lines and better brake fluid. Overall, I like them, but there are some drawbacks to driving on the street with them.

This is mainly why I did not add CCB to my spec and then the high replacement cost for rotors and pads too. I'm not a fan of brake dust and I understand why people do spec them that don't track their cars.

any recommended carbon break pads for the standard brakes that will significantly reduce dust?

One reason was definitely because of dusting. I cant say that I will never track it. I dont live that far from Thunder Hill Raceway. Sonoma and Laguna Seca are also within driving distance. And, lastly, I specd them, because I could, and the gold calipers matched my Dravit Gray.

Nothing without compromising braking performance. Ive had 5-6 cars with Brembos, and the brakes always dust like there is no tomorrow. People dont realize how bad it is, until they have to live with it. Lots of pads claim to not dust, or have alot less dust.

Carbotech swore up and down, their pads barely dusted. They were just as bad as Brembo pads, but the dust was more white, and you couldnt really see it, unless you had black wheels.

Well this thread quickly turned into another CCB debate. To the OP, painting calipers gold is totally fine if you want. It's not even comparable to "upbadging" (new word for me), which definitely is deserving of ridicule. Post lots of pics/details if you do it.

LOL. a simple question about painting calipers turned into a CCB debate.. paint calipers any color you want, get CCBs if you want for whatever reason. Your car, your $$.

Honestly, if CCB had not been an $8k option, let's say $4k I would have got them. I think most people would.

Yea I'm not sure why it's turned into this debate. I never owned CCB before but I heard of a lot of squealing issues. So I personally wouldn't get into them. Not knocking on guys who does get them or need them to explain to me how great it is or how bad it is.

I just didn't want to pose to have something I down have. I just love the color, I figured it's a lot better than sticking on a badge in my car that's is not really that car. Was curious on the perspective of fellow owners that's all.

Definitely planning on doing it, just curious if anyone has the paint code for the color.

This is way different than labeling a 320i an M3.

only like .01% of car guys will notice and 0% of non car car people will notice.

Changing caliper color is like adding garnish to a plate. It makes it look nice but I dont pay much attention to it as I want the Most Main Meal (M3)

Changing caliper colors on the M3 when gold is specific to CCB's is nothing compared to jeep GC SRT guys who paint their calipers yellow

And when you see a jeep GC debadged pull up and you see them yellow calipers, don't even try

Haha those trackhawks are nasty. The nice thing with hellcat motors. Can instantly tell by supercharger whine or lack there of.

That's just a quick 10 second google search.

CCB's are noisy. And they are only effective under constant heavy braking, IE: On a track.

Steel brakes on the street is more than enough.

And GM CCB's have put corvettes near the 7 minute mark at the ring. M3's are no where near that time.

Had CCBs on the GTS for 6 years and now on the CSL. Not especially noisy…
And to the OP, by all means, go for the gold if it is what you want. It is your car…and it makes a great color combo.

It’s not an available paint code by BMW or Brembo.
You will have to find something close by having the paint shop try to color match and blend.

More info here
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1176075&page=2

If someone knows it, they’re not saying what it is. All searches pretty much point back to the linked thread.

Next week I'm swapping gold for red, did not spec the G81 with CCB.
I will miss gazing at the nice gold paint during wheel changes.

Sounds like not properly bedded in CCBs.
I have none of what you describe, the brakes work flawlessly even when cold, let alone when they get up to operating temps.
And that's on stock pads.

I also run them on race pads and it's an absolute blast, the stopping power and consistency is insane. Beyond anything you can get from iron brakes.
