I'm sorry guys but this sounds exactly the same as the S55... the start up is the classic 'lawnmower' sound and yeah it sounds better with the valves open but no better or worse than the S55. I'm actually surprised they didn't do a better job considering pretty much the only complaint about the previous M3/M4 was the engine sound... ah well.

As more and more videos come out of this new generation M4 I find myself wanting one more and more. I was in the "this thing looks hideous camp" when some of the first spy shots were released but now as more and more closeups and reviews come out I've been I've been converted to a believer. I can't wait to hear one once the aftermarket gets ahold of it and installs an exhaust. I'm lucky enough to live in a state that only requires a rear plate so the goofiness of figuring out where to put the license plate in this whole getup isn't an issue in my situation.

Does anyone know when US pre-orders start and whats involved. I usually purchase a vehicle once it's released or right off the showroom but so I never ordered one during a pre-order. I'm stoked!
pre orders are any time. jut get with your dealer and get on waiting list Im sure. deposit prob gets you locked in. We already are seeing interest so I'm sure others are as well.

first wave of HEA cars start production jan so prob see them early march from what I am seeing/hearing
Isn't SOP November 2019? DelawareBMW I would patiently wait depending on your options, as the initial HEA cars are restricted to options. The US pricing/ordering guide hasn't been released, except for the HEA guide. I was at my out of state dealership yesterday, one of the largest in the southeast US, and the interest isn't there so far. GOLFFRR is out on the West coast, which is totally different situation from the East coast, I assume your in Delaware. Remember Cali can be its on country with its populations and economy. As factory ordering is all based on dealership allocation, which BMW NA determines based on past sales, especially for M models, your best bet would be to find a New York dealership, and to opt for PCD.

Correct, the euro spec cars have the particulate filter and EU noise regulations. Catless downpipes will solve sound issue.

This video makes it look so much worse than I thought it would. Also sounds like they took the fart can exhaust to the next level

Appears this might video might have been taken in Monte Carlo?

SPY looks good in the sun, not as muted as the official reveal photos

That first second or two sounds AWFUL. Chainsaws are less annoying. But after that it sounds pretty great.

yeah I agree I think it was cold start with the valves open but who knows. Definitely sounds better once it's sits for a few seconds. Just need mhd/bm3 to turn off cold start

S58 sound in M3/4 vs X3/4M

It's hard to say from this video how the sound compares in real life to the X3/4 M, but I can tell you in real life my S58 in my X3M sounds much better than the S55 cars I hear in real life. Much deeper and fuller sound. S58 sounds a lot less like a lawn mower and is a great sounding engine for an inline 6, IMO.

Perhaps the worst sound video of the G8X to date. Even still, the car sounds no better than the F8X.
Needs AAW to build equal length pipes.
Looks hideous in that flouro yellow.
Wheels are growing on me.

Yep, having owned a '15 and an '18 F80 M3 Comp, it's the exact same sound as the F80 M3 with Competition package.

Same cold start that initially sucks but quickly sounds better after a few seconds, and same sound as the F80 M3 Comp as it revs.....

Making a bad sound louder isn't a solution, but to be honest it effects all brands that have turbo engines the only thing they can do is add farts/pops and crackles, that's not a solution.

Ill echo this. Honestly this video reminds me almost exactly of when the S55 comp videos came out. Ran to my dealer and ordered one to replace my civic M3. Babied it to 1200 miles for 2 months. Finally let her rip.. gdit still sounds like shit.

If the S58 in the G8x has the same downpipe set-up as in the X3M, then it should naturally sound better than the S55 when under load as BMW moved more towards an equal-length downpipe set-up vs the unequal-length downpipes on the S55.

X3M's sound substantially better than the F8x in person fwiw.
