Individual colors will be available on 2-Series and M2. 1-Series can be ordered with individual colors from September onwards. After three years of hearing it is coming, it is finally there. Production for Europe will be at Leipzig, and US markets will be in Mexico. They will divide it between those two factories.

Also G87 will have a head-up display for those of you who would love that feature. That is next to the carbon roof as an option, the choice between manual and automatic gearboxes and all the other interior features we have seen from the new M3 and M4.

S58 up front producing around 440 hp and other than that a similar power train set up to the M3 and M4. If I have more info, I will share it here.

Original post - April 26, 2021

  • G87 M2 will be available with a manual and an automatic.
  • Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option.
  • The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design.
  • The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible.
  • And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.

Let's hope it still looks great. Curious to see how the interior goes.

Based on spy shots its should look pretty similar to the G20, just likely with less trim and lower tier-materials.

Wonder if there will ever be a new version of a DCT. Gonna miss the drama of those gear changes.

I am just curious about weight and cost... will it get fatter and how much more expensive?

Auto vs DCT... they just won't feel the same... for Mt guys, no biggie.

The production version of this (from the Concept i4), which hasn't yet been shown:

From BMW? By 2030, they are expecting 50% of their vehicles won't even have a multi-speed transmission. So no, there will be no new DCT.

Hopefully it will have interior color choices. I care about the driving experience first, but it is disappointing that the current M2 is only available with a black interior. A few more exterior color choices would be nice too. I'd love a bold green.

Thanks for the update.I’m really looking forward to the G87.Nice to see that the new M2 will be available with a carbon fiber roof. It’s also great that BMW is including most features that the G80 has.It will definitely be 6MT for me this time. Not a huge fan of the new dash layout from the i4 but who cares. This should be a great driver’s car.

One thing I really loved about buying an m2 was that lack of options. Too many like the g80/82 is overwhelming to me

Carbon fiber roof and hopefully the ceramic brakes are a must. Thanks for the update.

Not offering the carbon buckets in their sportiest car seems like a miss to me. But the manual is what matters most!

Not sure why they wouldn’t offer the brakes and seats in their most focused sized model. Surely the seats make more sense in a compact coupe than a large saloon (M3)

Sounds promising. A proven recipe for a 1/2 Series M car.

Just worried about the styling.
