M xDrive with 2WD mode and 10-step TC (M Drive Professional/Track Mode) is a game changer compared to what's in the F9X.

It's not bad. It does bump up the weight of a car that is already on the heavy side. I get that they invested a lot of time stiffening up the chassis to help improve the ride but it's a shame they couldn't have at shed a few more pounds here and there. I also realize that there's a balancing act as reducing weight adds cost so it is what it is and it's nice to have the option as it will make the car easier to live with 12 months a year in northern climates. AWD will overcome the added weight regardless in most cases.

I think I'm going to give it a shot with a base 6mt, buckets no option as a second/nice days/track car and see from there when AWD are more common and easy to test drive. If a snow storm falls I just take the Q5 but for 95% of winter that roads are on asphalt, no reason not to take the M3..

If I wanted the AT I definetely would have gone with the AWD. I mean, you can literally switch to 2WD. Amazing work BMW, amazing work. (and I know I know, M5 and M8 had it already but still) |

110 lbs is exactly in the range most of us guessed that made the effort to look up the latest BMWs offered in both Xdrive and RWD. My guess was 100 - 120 lbs. It should put an AWD car just above 3900 lbs given the scale weights we’ve gotten this far. 400 lbs gap to the M5, not bad.
I’m so excited, this is a revolutionary addition to the M3. Now just open the damn order book BMW ! Last edited by solstice; 04-15-2021 at 11:12 AM.. |

Fiona seems way brighter/more saturated based on all the photos I've seen unless they color corrected it to be more muted. I could be 100% wrong though that's for sure. It looks really good in this video.

That was a really cool video. We're getting to hear a bit from the actual geeky engineers who work on the cars instead of polished public speakers, aka marketing dudes, who are full of shit.
Good work BMW giving those who want this the option! |

Very informative video.
As "there are no revenues without costs", the extra weight of M xDrive is easily outweighed by the benefits. |

And it seems the engineers really tried to maintain as much steering feel as possible. Dammit, BMW, you just made my decision harder. Wait for the AWD or get the 2WD? I don't need it for the inclement weather, simply for the better traction in all circumstances. Still leaning towards RWD at this time, and then I'll likely trade this in for an LCI version in the final few years of the G8X's life cycle, and then I can move to AWD then if I'd like. The next M is almost certain to be a hybrid of some sort, so the G8X may be a keeper. |
