The pandemic certainly delayed some vehicle purchases. So the pent up demand is being cleared one year later in Q1 2021. I'd like to see BMW EV sales at some point.

So much for the assumptions about BMW's sales tanking.

Yeah and I bet they're all coming out of hyper-populated Asia. Explains the ricer-type m performance parts. EU and US no longer the target markets. Bmw is here to make max money even if that means selling out the soul of the company. Feels like their target buyer (across all nations) went from people who like driving cars, to people who like flashing a flashy car while wearing supreme gear from head to toe, and possible lives their life through the checkmark next to their name on instagram.

Porsche tried that with the 996 and noped the fuck out of that ugly ass after Pinky Lai fucked it up

Give it another 10 years and im sure the 3 series will be the size of a 7 series, with a button to auto drift and underglow.

Didn't Rolls Royce also knock it out of the park? Seems luxury buying in general is through the roof

How long as the design language been on sale?

We will see

Not that the 4 series was a major contributor previously anyways.

I didn't mention anything about a specific car (...and it's possible that you read into my statement unnecessarily). There was a statement made on the forum a few days ago about BMW's overall sales being in the tank. This thread contradicts that statement. That was my only point.

We've known FOR YEARS that the X's have kept BMW afloat the same way SUV's have kept nearly every other manufacturer afloat. That's not news.

While I would not necessarily agree that "pretty much all" is consistent with the language used in the press release, it's clear those models were the major winners, yes:

Quote:
The main factors contributing to the brand’s first-quarter sales success were the X models’ high popularity with customers (246,068 units, +36.5%), as well as sales increases of 43.0% for the new high-volume BMW 5 Series and 43.6% for the successful BMW 3 Series.
However, later in the press release, there was this statement as well:

Quote:
In the performance segment, the M440i Coupé* was the significant source of growth.
So, that's not nothin'.

In the M performance segment "M440i was was the significant source of growth". Regionally, Asia was the strongest and china almost doubled from an already high base driving most of the growth, although other regions had strong growth as well. Ironically, Germany sales were down!

The ultimate measure of success will be whether the G8x will reach or exceed BMW's internal forecasts and long-range plans for the model, and their share gain/loss calculations to segment competitors, but it is hard to believe that the models won't show sales growth especially in the high-growth market we are currently.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of the new design, but will likely end up with one anyway given what else is out there: hard to find a good performance sedan that you can get in 6MT. I'm sure there are many others like me out there that will buy the car, ugly snout or otherwise.

It was also likely a source of growth as BMW counts M-Performance cars towards M sales. Being that there were no M-Performance 4ers before the G22/3, the prior models were not counted towards the performance segment sales, and of course the pandemic in addition to the end of production of the F32/3 resulted in very low sales for the 4er last year. I'm sure once the GC is converted to the new G-Chassis and M-Performance lineup, that it will also grow performance division sales as the GC has always accounted for more sales than both the coupe and vert combined.

It also could be people are buying their BMW's before the ugly grille spreads to other models.😁

What "assumptions" were you referring to? Statements were made that the new styling (e.g., the beaver face) would negatively impact sales. This Q1 data does not disprove that because increase in sales were due to X Models, 3 & 5 Series.

Interesting to note as well that China sales went up 97% and now accounts for more sales ($230K) than the US ($78K) and Germany ($68K) combined, and almost as much as all of Europe ($239K). It was claimed (which I never saw proof of) that BMW created large grilles because of China but doesn't look like it because the increase has been due to sales of BMW's with normal grilles.

1380 RR cars were sold in Q1, their best result so far with the main drivers being Cullinan and the new Ghost.
