For sure there will be a GTS/CSL car this cycle, it is almost inevitable

I'm excited!

It was too obvious, almost made heavy on purpose compared to last gen... now the carbon lightweight materials will be used not only for cosmetics... That's going to be what the normal car should have been... only it's gonna be a heck more expensive again.

It COULD be a 6MT RWD version......that would keep the starting weight low.

The E46 M3CSL was an SMG, what makes you think the G80 M4CSL will be a manual?

It most likely won't be, but it would indeed reduce weight if it were. He didn't claim he thought it would happen, necessarily.

Maybe it will get the RWD + 8AT setup.

The SMG transmission was 105.5 pounds. The E46 6MT tranmission was 101.4 pounds, a marginal difference of 4.1 pounds.

That is NOT the case anymore as the 8AT is substantially heavier than the 6MT (not sure we have confirmation on actual weights yet, someone more knowledgeable than me may chime in).

Also, the AWD system is substantially heavier than the RWD system. Since it's safe to say the CSL will be focused on weight, it will likely be RWD. Since the RWD ONLY comes in 6MT I am making an inference in saying it "COULD" be a RWD 6MT.

EDIT: RWD is also 8AT, I forgot non-6MT drivers exist lol.

The auto seems like the biggest compromise. Many enthusiasts would love the manual. From a pure lap-times perspective, the now-gone DCT would be awesome. 8AT seems like a let down to me for a CSL car.

It would be pretty incredible if the CSL/GTS came with the DCT again, but it's incredibly unlikely

You sure?

It's true that the MT can only be paired with RWD. But RWD can be paired with either the MT or AT. Otherwise there'd be no Competition model right now.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Either that or the rumors are true:

My bet is firmly on the latter, but we'll see.

Well if the CSL only runs for a year, they must come up with something special further down the product lifecycle, though we've head that they are retiring the GTS name.

I find it a bit surprising that they fire those CSL shots this early. Maybe CS first and CSL later?

Any takers on the price?
This is going to go one of two ways;
Parts Bin Special - Throw a bunch of M Performance parts on it and give it a unique set of wheels
Holistic approach - Where you have a true next level performance machine that works in unison with all of the new parts.

The parts bin would be what they did with the bizarre M2 Special Content Package (unused "Futura" parts) or the M4 Heritage Edition. If that were the case, the price would less than the sum of their parts individually.
If this was a more traditional approach, then hell, this car could be in the $125k to $150k price.

Could be, although the F82 M4 GTS, which this is essentially the successor of, came before the F80/F82 CS models.
