M4 keeps idrive 7 for now, only the m3 gets I drive 8. It's just the 4 series gets updated later.

Screen kills the sports car cockpit feel for me. Do not want a flat panel in a powerful M sports car.

I think BMW should create a new “ID8” big screen set up for the M models. A 3 series/i4 should not have the same exact screens as an M Performance model. I feel these cars should not have a “techy” look on the dash. Takes away from the performance feel of the car. Now on an electric car those big screens are perfect IMO!

I think there’s a lot of people in that boat…I went from thinking it looks ok in pics to loving it when I saw it in person. I seem to be the only person that likes the idrive 8 screen better than what they have in the M3 currently though so what do I know haha my 2018 m240i has a tablet sticking out that’s barely integrated into the dashboard. People frequently ask me if it folds into the dash like an Audi

The big fat iPad screen looking displays I absolutely hate but I think the idrive8 screen is pretty nifty. I find the current way the infotainment connects to the gauge cluster pretty awkward shape-wise

I am personally a fan of the huge screen like they do in benz. Let’s be honest half the time I don’t pay attention to it anyway lol..

I want to drive a car, not an appliance.

The giant screen takes away from the experience of strapping into a high performance vehicle with a purpose-built instrument cluster that is properly integrated into the dash.

Let's not forget why earlier BMWs had amber/red lights in the dash — to minimize eye strain at night. Taken from fighter jets.
This iDrive 8 is a big departure from that pilot-oriented ethos. Very disappointing.

BMW is here to make profit for their shareholders and would always want to reduce costs as much as they can. G80 is derived from regular 3 series and infotainment would be an exact carry over from that platform (especially a non performance feature).

My main problem with this screen design and layout is that it doesn't make the interior look or feel sporty or edgy. It makes it look bland and boring which is not what an M car should convey.

Been driving Audi cars for 18 years; almost ordered an RS5, but ended up falling in love with the M3, both inside and out. I find the interior fresh and very sporty, befitting of an M car. This flat screen nonsense completely changes the look of the interior, and I might have to cancel my order because of it. But if I do, no idea what other car I would get. I guess this is only the start of things to come, because one day, new ICE cars will be banned in many countries, and we'll have to get used to buying new electric cars or used ICE cars.

Love my 2022 M3 interior. I’d take any of these more driver oriented
cockpits over a large screen. Just looks out of place in a drivers car
IMO

This is worse than the grille, I like buttons/knobs in my car, the simpler the better….See mk7 GTI vs mk8 GTI. People hate the new mk8 infotainment.

What evidence is there to think MY23 M3/4s are going to be getting this dash? The talk of canceled orders seems a little premature but maybe I'm missing something.

Because it has been confirmed that the special edition 2023 M3/ Jahre Edition Will have the curved display. So chances are the m's are next. Also, the whole line-up is moving that direction the 7, x7, 3 series, the electric i's obviously.

Exactly. Nothing has been confirmed at all from BMW, and the special edition leaks are for a different model variant, after all. Definitive MY23 amendments are out this month; but every CA and Genius I've asked has predicted the continuation of ID7 for the G80. It's not as if the factory isn't capable of applying different tech to different trims of the 3 series (especially as the M3 isn't getting a formal LCI).

The "6U3 BMW curved display with HUD" is NOT mentioned on the 50th Jahre M3 build sheet my salesperson sent me yesterday. Under "Executive Package" it just lists "6U3 BMW Head Up Display", but it DOES list "4AW SensaTec dashboard"........

So what does that imply: it's optionalised for the 50 edition?

Good question. "curved display" is not mentioned on the entire 23TQ "M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M" build sheet I was sent.

I absolutely love the interior of my G80 now because it still has actual buttons for HVAC and other functions. The loss of this for a BS touchscreen which will be dirty and make quick hvac setting changes a pain is such a massive move in the wrong direction that I do not even consider buying a car with that. Now all cars are exactly the same. They're all going this way and with upcoming electrification of fleets, almost nothing will differentiate cars from one manufacturer to the next. This sucks.

MY23 50 Jahre edition is just a MY23 with cosmetic updates. Its highly unlikely that they are going to offer two infotainment options in the same platform. There is a CA in the forum who denied iDrive 8 implementation for MY23 in the past and he changed his mind after seeing these updates.

I believe your MY22 order is pushed beyond CW26 which might end up as a MY23 and you are hoping to have iDrive 7 in your vehicle. MY23 order guide will be out shortly and would confirm these updates in next MY.
