Control SST valve controller from mirror homelink?

My SST works great for my G82. I have set up the default behavior the way I want.

I did “learn” the remote buttons on my car rearview mirror, the mirror confirms it learned the signal. But for some reason, the mirror buttons are unable to control the SST. The mirror light flashes but the flaps don’t move. I am certain the mirror learned the buttons correctly. I have tried it 2-3 times.

Is there any reason the mirror buttons do not work to control the SST? Anything else I can try?

Nope, just try again. I had mine programmed for full open and stock using the HomeLink.

Where is the sst mounted? Is it in the trunk or near the muffler? Think you need to bring it in closer to function properly, mine needed a few presses when it was mounted near the muffler.

It’s in the trunk…there’s a chance it isn’t reaching but seems surprising. Even if I keep trying it never seems to work…

Try again to program it? Or keep pressing bc the signal is not reaching? Not sure what to try. Reset home link buttons and try to “learn” again?

Try clearing the homelink and reprogramming it. Also when you reprogram it after youve cleared the memory (long press for 20 sec), remember to not do it again when you are setting up the other buttons. Otherwise the previous one you just set up is erased. I set mine up 2 weeks ago and Im never confident that it worked. I found that while you are programming it once your light on the homelink turns solid green, press it again to confirm it and then you are set.

How do you clear the homelink? Long press on any in-car homelink button, all the homelink buttons, or only the button programmed to open the garage?

Press and Hold the Outer 2 buttons (1st and 3rd) for 10 seconds to Clear/Reset the Homelink settings.

Programmed mine this weekend. Works flawlessly and mine is mounted in the trunk in the usual location. Also, if you long press the home link button for 20 seconds, that allows you to reprogram only that button. I just followed the instructions in the BMW manual. I did have to reprogram one of the buttons after the first attempt seemed to not take. I did not want to do a full reset of my home link as first button is already programmed to my rolling code garage door opener which is always a bit finicky to program.

thank you for posting, Coz.

I was told that you have to clear all the in-car homelink buttons before programming the SST, having to reset my previous garage door setting. I guess not. Like you, my rolling code garage door opener is definitely finnicky so I would prefer to just ADD the SST and not start over.

So, on that note, did you simply long-press the single homelink button you want to set to an SST button, and then once homelink started blinking rapidly, you then held up the SST remote to the homelink and hold the SST button you want to program to that location? or is there another step?

My SST is now installed, and I will soon be programming my homelink...so your post timing was perfect.

Yep. Thats all I did. One long 20 second press of the button I wanted to reprogram until it started blinking, then hold up and use remote to program just like the manual states. It's not a rolling code, so very simple. If it doesn't take, just repeat. Then you get the acknowledgement blink on the mirror (I think it was a few flashes of green or blue?). Straight out of the manual. No need to reset the whole mirror.

Worked like a charm, even though I thought it didn't. It didn't work immediately, and when I hit the homelink buttons, it didn't always work. Sometimes it takes two presses to activate the flap, or close it. But it's programmed, without having to reset the entire homelink system, thank goodness.

thank you

Exactly the same issue I was having. It would sometimes take multiple presses, moving it closer didn't seem to help. I ended up just mounting the remote under the cup holder cover and that works really good.

So far mine seems to be working reliably with the home link, but I've only played with it for an hour or so on a couple drives.

Yeah, makes sense. I just leave the remote in the cubby pocket to the left of the steering wheel. I don't mind the 2 presses sometimes through homelink.

I just got the SST earlier this week, and so far I really do like the added exhaust sound when I want it...and I love the optionally loud cold start.

I did get this working. It helped a lot to be able to program just one button at a time. Thanks for the help. Could have sworn that home link feature wasn’t in my manual, but whatever.

I’ve not closed mine yet and it was installed a week ago😂 I think the only time I’d close them was if I went out really early. Even with the valves 100% open this car needs more volume for me. My last midpipe was an ER with no secondary cats or resonator and it was just too raspy. I did not have a valve controller on that S58. I’m thinking single midpipe and the valve controller might do the trick.

I assume you have stock midpipe. With aftermarket midpipe the valves open is crazy loud on cold start. Very uncomfortably so. It sets off my glass break alarm in garage home security system.

Yes I’m stock for now. My ‘22 X3MC had the ER and no controller and yes, at startup it was obnoxious! I would start and put it right into gear to quiet it down. There were times even once warmed up at certain RPM’s the drone was pretty bad.

It’s called “universal remote control” in the manual.
