What were they thinking?

Why does the m440i have a seatbelt butler as standard but you cannot even option it on the m4.

Why does the m440i have full sensatec as standard...but on the m4 unless you get full leather you have hard plastics everywhere. I'm sure a lot of us would have gone for the extended leather if we would have gotten sensatec with stitching on the dashboard.

What other features have you guys noticed are available on the lower models but not the range toping models.

P.s no back seat armrest
And heated rear seats on the 3 series

It's funny you mention the seatbelt butler, I had that on my S5 cab and now I have an M4 on order and was wondering why it was deleted.

It's just such a stupid thing to delete. Like how much can it cost that a 80k cannot have it but a 60k car can

I agree. Does the 8 series have it?

My 2020 M8 Competition Coupe was $159,900 and it didn’t have a seat belt butler. I mean, seriously.

Other items I can think of (for an M3) are welcome light carpets and the kick-to-open trunk release

I think the kick-open-trunk can't work because the sensor space was taken up by the big exhaust.

Seriously imagine you're in the parking lot and the guy next to you in his m440i is ever so gently handed his seatbelt, while you have to grab it like a peasant in you 160k car.

They have to save something for the LCI. They know half this board will redip.

Do you all realize that Porsche cuts out this kind of content, christens it some stripped out new 911 variant, charges $15k extra for the weight savings, and people line up to buy it? Consider this your CSL-light.

Why doesn't the m8 have it then. It's been out since 2019... no models have the seatbelt butler

I was being facetious. Perhaps because the mechanism tends to break, or maybe people equate it with those old mechanical seat belt rails. Or maybe because they're saving it for the 9-series.

Guys. This discussion first came up with the F80/82 and the general consensus is that BMW does not put the seatbelt extender on the M cars to save on weight. Not so much the weight of the flimsy plastic piece, but the weight of the mechanism to make it work. BMW takes the position that some creature comforts are worth deleting on the M cars for weight savings and that M buyers are generally ok with it.

i miss the butler greatly. my understanding is that it was not compatible with the M seat design. The m440i were narrower and more traditional at the top.

I meant I had auto in the Vettes. The manual in the BMW doesn't have the same range, either. But, I have it set as far down and as far out as possible and just leave it alone. Not ideal, but ok.

And the guy in the 440 is probably dreaming of what it would be like to have an M4

Personally I could not care less about the seat belt butler

m3/m4 has always been bmws "track" oriented car and they have always omitted the fancy electric options to keep weight down.

Very old thread but good it's here as I was thinking whether or not my memory is totally gone... After 3 months of driving M4 one day getting into the car I realised "wait.. there was a seatbelt butler in a demo car we drove few years ago". But after reading this thread I remember that we did have one drive in 440i before going for M4.

I came from an M440i and I had specced the M seats, which seemed very similar to the M4 seats, and the seatbelt extender was still there.

More annoying is the loss of arm rest and cup holders in the back, whats the reason for that?

Came from an M440 to my G83 and I can say with certainty that I wouldn’t exchange my M car for another M440 just for a seatbelt extender. I prefer the stripes in my new seatbelts anyway!!
