A Porsche Panamera is not a good compliment to a G8X. It offers hardly any more practicality or usability. A skosh more legroom and a slightly more practical trunk while being even longer.

A Cayenne would be a much more logical companion.

Thanks it’s the best looking minivan out there for sure.
Got two car seats for school drops offs etc for the M. It’s daily driven too.

That being said I thought I would say I love minivans after getting one but I’m not a convert. Can’t wait til kids can climb and buckle themselves in so we can get a three row suv.

As for the minivans, they are the best answer for practicality especially when the kids are in car seats …. but the worst answer for driving experience and luxurious comfort. I enjoyed ours immensely when the kids were little (had it for almost 2 years)- but never looked back.

Cargo space would be great for family trip and picking up large items at big box stores. I think cargo space behind second row is around 48 cu ft. Some of the other recommendations mentioned here like X5 are around 34 cu ft. Thats barely more than wifes CX5. She wont drive a larger suv so thar means a third vehicle for us

Also, the X7 is about 204 inches in length so would fit nicely in my 20ft deep garage.

I am contemplating a used X7 but also thinking about a GLS for our family car replacement
Now I am leaning towards used x7 as well. I don’t like the GLS.

I was thinking of the Panamera ST (wagon) but you are correct that if you're emphasizing room, an SUV or minivan is probably the way to go.

A key question is how many children. If two, lots of choices, if three or more, gotta be a three-row vehicle. If very large family, Sprinter.

My buddy growing up had a large family. I think by the time he moved away there were 5....this was back before minivans. When they moved, they had a full sized conversion van which was dope. But before that they actually had....a school bus! Seriously, they bought a retired "short bus" based on a van chassis that still had the working "school bus door" and everything. It was hysterical. Until one day we were driving and one of our friends was standing in the aisle and my friend's mom hit the brakes and he fell forward and smashed his head on the door opening lever. She pulled a right turn and drove us straight to the ER....while we waited in the bus!

Oh my, times were different.

the M3 IS my daily. It's the only reason I bought it. It fits 4 people comfortably, has a generous trunk, is fun to drive, quick, manual, rwd. Ticked all the boxes. I would not have bought it if I didn't need something to carry kids in. I've realized having multiple cars that I always end up just driving the one that's more practical and the others sit and never get driven, so I wanted one that could do it all pretty well. My wife has a 3 row SUV for road trips or if we need to carry a lot of stuff.

iX M60 suits us great.

If you don’t need 3 rows, and ev suits your lifestyle, it’s a solid choice. Loads of second row leg room. Roadtrips in California have been no problemo. Quiet and comfortable, great stereo. Performance impressive for what it is.

That's great that the iX has proven good for you. In many parts of the USA, I think an EV is not under consideration because of temp extremes or the lack of charging stations. As much as I like some of the current EVs, I don't think they're on my list yet.

I was never a BMW guy until I bought thr x7 last year and then the m3cx . I have always owned Mercedes, Range rovers, volvo xc90R . The Porsche cayenne is too small for our family. The only competition out there rhat I might consider is the Cadillac Escalade or GMC Dinali . GMC DINALI is nice but lacks the driving dynamics of the X7 .

We’ve owned full size MB, Audi, and BMW 3 row SUVs and our favorite was the X7. Mini van is the most practical choice with little ones but my wife and I were not “mini van people” but thoroughly enjoyed them as rentals. If you don’t need 3 rows, look into the new Cayenne S or higher trim. For less expensive options, I like Hyundais and KIAs. A friend owns a KIA Telluride and he loves it.

This is a very interesting question. Probably worthy of its own thread (in the general automotive forum?) and would no doubt spur vigorous disagreement.

If you deal with snow, Honda Pilot. Super reliable, easy maintenance
