M Mode effect mpg?
I know milage isn't a major reason we purchase M cars, but while reading the manual last night I came across sentence which alluded to comfort/efficient as being best option for least amount of petrol consumption.
In my few days of mixed driving it would seem I'd get worse mileage on hilly terrain and/or city stop&go because the rpm is low and in too tall a gear. But overall, is driving same speed and same distance on even ground in economy going to give better mpg than sport? Does the ecu allocate more fuel because it expects aggressive driving? |

The setting/behavior that impacts MPG the most are the transmission settings. D1 being the most efficient (keeps car in higher gears), D3 the least. S depends on how you shift gears. Despite the title of your thread, it sounds like you may be asking if the the engine settings (efficient, sport, sport plus) impacts MPG. I’d say that’s an open question. There was another thread about that. I said that it only changes throttle sensitivity, others think it also changes fuel maps that would impact MPG. I”m basing my conclusion on this from the manual “The M Engine Dynamics Control affects the response of the vehicle to accelerator pedal movements” So…not really sure! Just drive it like you stole it!
