Port Installed Options
I have been kicking around the idea of a few port installed options but was curious on others experiences with doing so. If I were to do the M Performance splitter/front lip, do we get the 2 black pieces that are removed on each side of the bumper back with the car? If we get the HAS suspension do they give us the factory pieces that are removed? Do we get a choice of ride height settings or do we all get the exact same specs? Appreciate any help!

I can only speak on HAS. I did not get the stock springs and there was no choice of height as they set it the same on all of their installs.

The port installers set the drop to 10mm front and rear, but from pics people have posted, it sure seems like more than a 10mm drop. I actually dropped the M HAS from my order last week worried about the drop and hitting things in my neighborhood - not worth the worry for me. thread |

The worst is those that spec M Perf wheels. You pay extra for the wheels, and do not get the stock wheels at all... I got my 963M wheels separately (GetBMWParts.com) |

I'd imagine it'd be a bit too expensive/too much work for them to figure out how to get it new again and shipped back to be put on another car. |

Sorry this seems like a silly question but do yall know if you can add the drive recorder at port? I’ve been mad at myself for not just clicking that stupid $100 option…

Escort makes some decent webcams and you can have front/rear installed and work in conjunction with your radar. Check out this. BMW Advanced Car Eye 3.0 Pro. Don't know if it's port-installed or dealer-installed or what it requires or what it's compatible with. |

Don't beat yourself up. I got a dashcam as well. There've been reports of it not automatically triggering on some lighter accidents. I don't full trust it 100%.

You can add it in the ConnectedDrive store only if you have the Parking Assistance package.

Yes, it only uses the cameras already installed. If you want a dash cam, buy one separately. By design, it continuously records, and only saves video (up to 20 seconds before and 20 seconds after an incident), and it only records when the car is running.

Just wanted to understand why people choose this…and if it’s used or if it’s just a cheap option and might as well click it. |

You can manually capture video if you press the camera icon in the center console, but again, you have to be in the car with the car running for that. If/when I order a new one, I’ll still add the option as it’s not expensive, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s not very useful. |

Presumably you need the Parking Assistance Package (or whatever gave us the 360 cameras) to use this? But I do think the availability of that remote 3D image via the app likely is totally independent of whether one also has the Drive Recorder option. (Could be wrong on that ... because I also ended up adding the Drive Recorder through the connected drive store after taking delivery of the car.) |
