From US port to Dealership

I am not sure if this thread exists so please let me know.

What is the estimated time from a car to get from a US port to the dealership ( I know this may depend on how for the dealership is from the port) ?

I am also really excited for my first M3 - car arrived at US port on Friday

Mines been at the port over 10 days and my dealership is only an hour away (Baltimore, MD to Fairfax, VA). It all depends. Some leave for the dealer the day after getting to port, some have been there for weeks. A carrier may have to wait until there are enough vehicles to load on a trailer in order to move. All this isn't even taking into account if you have port installed parts.

My sales associate told me that his dealership usually gets cars three or four days after they get to Port. He is in Poughkeepsie New York, and the port is in New York City.

Hey NicolasB you’re using Wil @ Hudson Valley? I forgot you hooked me up with Wil and my allocation! Thank you.

Hey, no problem! I got the hookup from another user on here who got his car a month or so back. I may end up getting mine delivered to the dealer in Syracuse, which is closest to me. Otherwise it's 5 and 1/2 hours for me to Poughkeepsie and, while I would love to get the break in miles, there's a good chance I would be driving an unprotected car through salty, snowy roads and that is not ideal, especially since this is not my daily driver. Mine will hopefully be at a dealership by mid December

Cool. I’m down in northern VA. Depending on when it ready for pick up, I’m panning on flying up with my wife and driving back. If it’s within a week of Christmas, I may have it shipped down.

Definitely luck of the draw. Mine arrived at port on a Wednesday, truck was supposed to pick it up for the 6 hour drive to San Francisco Sunday.

Low and behold, I got an update from my SA the car arrived at the dealer that Thursday.

Wow that’s crazy fast! Mine arrived at port Wednesday 11/22, looks like it’s still there.

That was me. I picked up my car from Wil a few weeks ago. My car docked in NJ on Thursday, 11/2 and was at the dealer the morning on 11/6. Hoping yours shows up soon.

I was definitely very lucky, and unlucky, since I had to make travel plans to get it very last minute and on the biggest travel week of the year. Not complaining though!

Anyone else here who has been at Hueneme since 11/22? My SA has no input on when it'll get to VPC and shipped out.

Hello, does "at the port" mean at the US port? Or can it mean at the port overseas? Or either? My M4 moved from "dispatched from factory" to "at the port" on 11/23/23. Thank you for any clarification.

when it moves from "dispatched from factory" to "at port", that implies the departing port in Germany. Then it will change to "in transit" meaning it is on a vessel crossing ocean. Once it arrives in your destination port, it will move back to "at port".

My SA said to expect a 2-3 weeks wait. This was this past Monday. I’m guessing he also does not know much more than we do and just gave a conservative number.

Yep, same here. My broker texted me yesterday to say it was assigned to a carrier, so hopefully should be at the dealer (Bay Area CA) in the next few days.

Can you switch the dealer it gets delivered to?

I was told you can do a courtesy delivery at another dealership, not sure what the limitations are on distance. Mine would be 3 hours apart.

Very interesting. And interested. Anyone confirm this to be true?

Unless my sales associate was straight up lying to me, then I believe it to be true. I actually need to send him a text and probably get that set up since the weather in New York has turned pretty bad and I don't want to try to drive the car home five and a half hours in a snow storm.

Curious how the timeline worked out for you? We currently have an X1 on a ship right now. Same dealer (different advisor) told us it was a quick trip once it reaches port, so trying to plan for delivery date.
