As I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I got fed up with trying to jump through all the hoops with the VA, etc. I finally said f**k it, and made an appointment with a regular audiologist. She has a PhD in audiology and has all of the latest equipment. She setup my Phonak's on the spot with me watching the monitor screens and listening. She set me up with the appropriate accessories including Bluetooth to my TV (which I don't watch much). She gave me the ear wax kit and it is very easy to use.

The bottom line is that for me, my hearing (quality) is very valuable, so I bit the bullet and wrote the check. With these new (a year ago) hearing aids I still find it amazing at what I had been missing for many, many years.

This is a quality of life issue.

BUT, PhonaK at Costco was about $2k, the ENT audiologist office wants upwards of $7k. They aren't giving me THAT much additional services, and I can learn to clean my own hearing aids.

I find it hard to believe that hearing aids from 2018 can't be programmed to my specs, they aren't THAT old (even if I am)

May not be apples to apples, but I know my prescription and can't get contact lenses in person anywhere without the actual piece of paper.

I just buy them online, as they don't require it (even if they have the space for you to upload it).

YMMV but if you know what you want and need, try to get it online.

My come-to-jeebus moment was at an annual dinner for the engineering group at the steel mill; I was standing at the bar waiting for a beer when I happened to look to my right and, lo and behold, there was a guy talking to me. If not for my eyes I would not have known. In my case that was almost 40 years ago, before I qualified to stand on the lawn here.

Another amen. Work situations still suck with hearing aids, but not because of your hearing. If you catch my drift.

I don't know if it is where you live, but from what I'm reading in your posts I'd say you need a new ENT. If they won't write a prescription, write 'em off.

My first job was working in a large butcher shop that was also part grocery store. We had these big, oaken pickle barrels where you could fish out your own pickles. Sawdust all over the floor. Bored kids shopping with their clueless parents. You get the picture. I was constantly cleaning sawdust out of the pickle brine.

I know he's dead, but that doesn't stop ABC from calling the show "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve".

The old people (like me) are thinking, "why is his name still on the show, he's been dead for years".

Because the broadcast is still produced by Dick Clark Productions, by contract with ABC through at least 2024.

The whole "New Year's Rockin' Eve" show is really like a yearly family reunion atmosphere for the people working behind the cameras, and Dick welcomed the people working the broadcast year after year to bring their families as VIP guests. (I used to TiVo the show every year just to watch the credits, to see who had moved/passed on. A few times, they even included memorial info in the ending credits for production crew who passed away the previous year.) One of my favorite broadcasts was the year when KISS was playing a NYE concert across the river in NJ at The Meadowlands, and they played "Rock and Roll All Night" live from the concert for the broadcast via microwave link.

FYI, an interesting Dick Clark tidbit is that he was rather short. Many of the sets he used over the years had stepped platforms or sitting stools, so that he appeared normal height next to co-stars like Ed McMahon. There was even a joke about the "Bandstand" having a milk crate behind the podium as a platform, although it was probably not true.

Back to the topic, you know you're old when you remember Dick Clark replacing Guy Lombardo on the TV at your family's NYE celebrations.....
