Dealer Markups - April updates
Hey all,
I've been in the market for a 6MT for a while, and I finally have an allocation from my dealer for a June build. They are talking about a 3K markup. Are other people still seeing those? Or are they pulling a fast one? (I've bought a new car from this dealer before (not an M-car), and they were very reasonable). I'm debating whether to pull the trigger or not, as I want to pick up the last of the 2023's before (I presume) price hikes for the 2024, but -- urgh, markups. I'm in North CA if it helps! Thanks! |

Still hearing a decent amount of dealers charging markup here around NYC. I honestly begrudgingly paid $5k over because I ended up needing a car sooner and couldn't wait longer for an allocation to build one at msrp. I just picked my car up last week. If you can wait though shop around because there are definitely dealers selling at msrp.

You can easily find one in the bay for MSRP. Since allocations just dropped a few days ago start calling dealerships and see which one will work with you. I was never on a "list" and just started calling around at the end of Feb to see if anyone had allocation. San Ramon, San Francisco and Concord BMW were able to work with me.
But I went with Monterey since the were the most punctual. If you want to give Monterey a call I have been working with Salena. Tell her Aldrich told you to give them a ring. You'll be one of the last 2023 builds for June till the 2024 start production in July. My 6MT just finished getting built and is now at port waiting to jump on a boat.

People are still reporting ADM on G80 allocation once in a while but it has reduced significantly. You might have to cast a wider net and reach out to dealers in nearby states if you want an allocation for MSRP. Or you can reach out to the well known brokers in the forum as well.

You shouldn’t pay for a mark up. Tell them you will buy from another dealer and if they don't budge take your money to elsewhere.
They make plenty of money on a MSRP deal already. They are being greedy.

Even here now in S. Cali I can get a base M4 6MT for MSRP. I am searching for a deal, which I feel is just around the corner. At least better residuals on the lease and money factors.

I have my car in transit but I sometimes go to dealers just to check out some models, colors, etc. Some still charge small ADM for 6SP M3, but MSRP for M4. But they all end "if you're serious, we'll work with you" so I think MSRP can be had for M3s.

He means it will be even easier to find MSRP. Credit is already being crunched, interest rates are still rising on a monthly basis, and more layoffs are coming. US GDP just was announced at 1.1% growth and is set for continued decrease - I mean the list goes on as to why the market is going to fall out for new cars and dealers will be begging to get rid of allocations.
As for the OP, no way would I pay markup. There are so many MSRP deals around now. Just make a few phone calls. |
