Everyone who made a non-OEM design tried to reinvent the wheel. There were renders of the G8x with M8 grilles and while not original, it looked great.

Damn man after all these time and countless of worthless opinion from me. I still have to come to this section of the forum and let my feeling be known.
I wouldn't even have known about this thread if it wasn't on the homepage.

It would be nice if someone did a simpler design within the confines of the existing grill. 1. Vertical slats - hard as it may be. 2. Keep the same slats but give them definition such that the inside portion sticks out more to match the painted dividing piece and then turns in about 1/3 of the way through to taper toward outside of the car. Only the top 2-3 slats would need to do this to give the whole front end more definition (more of a rake) and less of a straight up and down flat look.

Actually, y'all were incessantly rage-spamming every G80/82 thread. Just like y'all do the G87 ones now. Now you have your echo chamber, we have ours. Thanks for stopping by with that shinny new account and all. |

As M3 CS owner I can tell you the front fascia makes the radiator prone to failure.

I am also running the Autotechnick CSL grille with the red outline and I think it is perfect on IOMG.

I’m still considering selling my M4. I like the car but actively avoid looking at it as I walk away. The front end hasn’t grown on me and, in fact, I’ve come to hate it even more. It was my only option for a luxury manual so I sucked it up and bought it. Hopefully someone comes up with a fix soon. |

The fact that so many companies make so many grill options proves the opinions on the new G grill are not “overwhelmingly positive” to this day. No car in history has been prone to so many aftermarket grills.

CSL grill is fantastic but the biggest difference, for me at least, is in changing those air intakes from the honeycomb ones. So much more aggressive and suited to the car IMO

Great post guys. OEM CSL is still my favourite and we run it on both our G82 and G81.

It certainly is not a beautiful design the way I might admire the front of an F8x or E9x. Photos like this really accentuate the harshness of the grille. But a CSL or GT front certainly helps it to be a bit more palatable. Thank you for putting this together IND! |

“While the front fascia looks are still a bit polarizing, the overall consensus has become overwhelmingly positive”
This isn’t true. Even among many G8x owners the grille is something they tolerate, not something they love. Just yesterday I talked to a G80 owner who told me the main reason he purchased it in black was so the grille wouldn’t be as noticeable, and he isn’t alone. Among the non-G8x owners the design varies from being disliked to truly hated. BMW made a mistake with this design, as evidenced by so many aftermarket grilles trying to compensate for it. Where are the 10+ after market grilles and several full bumper redesigns for the previous M cars? With statements like the above, I’ll be reconsidering future purchases at IND. |

Two. I can think of two companies that make an aftermarket bumper that actually changes the shape and size of the grill, Adro and Vorsteiner, and they both look like ass. |

I’ve grown to like this grill and I understand BMW’s design philosophy in which this front represents something close to their M4 race car with the aggressive front. But I think it translated awkwardly in the marketplace. Regardless, it does give it an aggressive stance on the street. You can spot a M3/M4 a mile away.
As for changing out the grille, I want to do this but what’s aggravating is the whole process of removing the front to get to the grille. That’s what’s holding me back. |
