Swap brake calipers?
Any ideas on easiest way to get the blue BMW brake calipers for G80? Like, are they available to purchase? Mine came with black, and I like it, but I'm wanting to swap to the blue. Thanks in advance.

Someone here posted that they got the wrong color calipers on delivery and was trying to get BMW/the dealer to swap them out. They were told that the original parts were fitted to the car and that replacing them might screw something up. Seems kinda odd to me, although I'm admittedly not smart with that stuff. They offered to paint them. Not sure what the resolution was in the end.

yea, it would seem to me, the non-mechanic, that it's a replaceable part just like everything else on a car.

In the example where the car came in wrong the dealer was definitely doing avoidance, if I had to bet it was less so for the labor (I can't imagine painting them would be that fewer hours) and more so the warranty quagmire it would leave the car in with a different part number brakes that were installed by the dealer that don't match what the car is supposed to have. It's different if the change is consumer driven modification vs the dealer doing it to right a "wrong" but the car is still technically modified |

So dealer swap wasn’t doable… these guys work on brakes all the time… they can’t unbolt and swap but they can unbolt, take out the dust seals, remove the brake lines, chemically strip the old paint, repaint, replace dust seals and brake lines, and reinstall?

Can someone explain to me why the calipers cannot be changed? Ive been working on cars and bikes for 10+ years and part for part should be completly interchangeable. Now, pad to rotor wear is a different story but stock caliper for stock caliper with a pad swap shouldn't be an issue at all and make almost zero sense why it couldnt be done... Obv there can be differences in brake systems from an M part to a stock part etc but same caliper for same caliper should be he same.
If a car is damaged and the front wheel needs to be replaced as well as caliper, your telling me that its impossible to do so? Really not understanding here.... Last edited by Telly9987; 05-16-2021 at 11:46 PM.. Reason: missed line |

Anyone wanting to strait up modify their brakes it would be no different than any other car, with perhaps the added complication of calibrating the two brake feel modes but that could just be pedal feedback an no actual effect on the brakes themselves |

That was me....im sorry for not updating that post with the outcome....(i work from home and take care of a crazy 2 yr old)...soo im sure dealers would have no problem swapping calipers. My dealership just seemed incompetent or lazy bc they gave me this weird run around about how they didnt want to "disturb" the "delicate" brake system bc it was an M car. I knew i didnt want to have some outside vendor powdercoat them so i just stuck with the blue calipers....they compensated me for the error and i just "took it" i guess....the ocd in me just wasnt comfortable un bolting anything but the wheels outside its factory torque spec (unless you absolutely needed to)....especially from that dealership.

Speaking of call, did you ever reach out to BMW North America or just stick local to your dealership? |

Congrats on the newbie!
Man i really wanted to pitch a bitch to bmw NA and be "that customer" but it grew on me and my friends and family convinced me that it actually looks good and goes well with the blue in the headlights and badges. I patiently waited for this car and just didnt want to deal with the back n forth headache....ive now switched my dealership and am scheduled for the break in service this week so im excited to finally let her rip. |
