The steering seems too soft

Anyone else think the steering is too soft even in Sport setting? I miss that part of the F82...

What's your tires PSI ?

Serious question. Dealers sometimes have them inflated super high.

Yep, when I picked up my car they were 38/39 cold, vs sticker of 33/34 cold. Don't really know why they do that

I think it has to do with tire flat spots, since these vehicles sometimes are sitting for long periods of time in the showroom floor, dealer lot, etc. & Not moving

+ They won't need to constantly fill up the tires.

That would be my best guess.

What do you mean by soft? Is it too light for your liking and/or has vague center weight?

I'm curious as well. With electronic steering I prefer to keep my steering on Comfort since I get the most feedback from the road.

It does feel soft and kinda disconnected. I like it though. It's like the comfort setting on my F82 but more. Sports plus on the F82 requires a lot muscle at times, too much sometimes.

Soft as is not 1:1... I feel disconnected in comparison to my prior M4. I personally liked sport+. Perhaps a software update can fix this in the future or add a sport+ option.

What do you mean by 1:1; steering ratio? I take it that soft means light? I suggest test drive another G82 at your dealer and check whether the steering is the same, and let us know. Steering is a critical factor.

Btw, did you manage to test drive a G8X before purchasing?

You like sport+ for a F8x? There are two things I hate about my F82. The unnecessary heavy steering and the "manual" DCT. Both are pointless to me.

During hydraulic steering days, BMW enthusiasts were proud of the steering which was heavier than others, in particular Audi's. In fact, BMW enthusiasts then were dismissive of Audi's. I prefer BMW's traditional weighted steering; much more than M240i's substantially lighter EPS. For 8 years, the hydraulic steering on my then F10 M5 was set to sport plus for daily driving.

edit: M340i's steering is heavier than M240i's steering, both EPS.

Heavier doesn't mean better in the electric power steering days.
The heavy steerings of the latest BMWs with EPS has very artificial feedback and don't let you feel what the wheels are doing, I never use the Sport+ setting on my car because it adds nothing but artificial unnecessary weight to the steering.
The best steering you can get on a sport sedan (Giulia Q) is lighter than any Bmw steering, but gives you incredible real feedback and connection to the road.

It is true that heavier doesn't mean better for EPS. But for daily driving, I prefer a heavier steering. It is a preference, not whether it adds anything.

edit: My recollection of driving an Alfa (not the Q) some time back, was that its steering was not lighter, probably heavier than M240i's.

For those of you who have collected your G8X or driven it extensively vs the F8X, maybe you all can assist OP by letting him know whether sport + steering for the G8X is lighter than F8X's. Letting him know your preference or whether steering in comfort is better doesn't quite assist him.

Is G8X's steering on sport plus like F82's in comfort, as regards the strength to turn the steering?

When I did M School one of the instructors said that even when he has the car set to all the sporty modes that he leaves the steering on comfort because, why not have easy steering?

BMW EPS came long way, but not as same level is P-cars yet. But I always keep it in comfort, M car or not. Anything above comfort is too artificial IMO. Also M2C had the best steering feel, hopefully the magic copied to new M3/M4. On my short test drive it seemed better than last gen.

Correct. The G80 is easier requires less strength to turn the wheels

Sounds like a lot of personal preference here. I find that the lighter steering takes away my feedback from the road rather than enhancing it. This is a matter of preference. Also, from my understanding there is no sport+ steering on the G82. I will just give my feedback to the dealer I suppose. EPS by definition can be calibrated to be 'heavier' so I don't see why we all can't be happy. And to be clear I absolutely hate the steering on Audi's, Lexus, etc...
