Would you consider ceramic brakes for daily use?
I wonder if ceramic brakes are an added value for daily use? I ordered a new M3 Comp. AWD.
My dealer told me that ceramic brakes are not good for daily use and are even worse when you have to use them in rainy conditions. Is it true that the rims get less dirty with the ceramic brakes? Would love some input from those with experience, is my first M3, previously X3M40i. |

Carbon-ceramic brakes. Not to be confused with ceramic brake pads
They're advertised as being great for the track but the reality is track use wears them down so your track days become super expensive if you use them: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...n-says-porsche Their main benefit is looks and lack of dust, but you'll probably want to avoid tracking your car if you have them, which means you don't really make use of their main advertised feature - performance. IMO they're a joke. Just something for people with too much money to waste it on. They're generally used for cars that never hit the track, to look cool. |

I’ve heard the same. The answer being daily use doesn’t allow the ceramic breaks to get to the optimal temperature where they would be effective. If it’s the color you want, get them painted. If you’re concerned with brake dust there’s options for that as well. Ones that won’t cost you well over $8000 |

I would not use them for daily. I optioned my G80 with every single package/option (including an individual color) EXCEPT for CF brakes. I have ridden in numerous F80s with CF brakes and when it rains the squeaking kills me.

Would not recommend for daily use. However, if ur a prudent and skilled driver in cold and rainy weather ie safe, then they will last nearly forever on a daily car. Also not for repeated track use as they are expensive.
So why buy them? It's ironic but best for low mileage, nice weather or weekend cars aka Garage Queens: - less un-sprung weight, noticeable IMO - less dust - major bling factor, incl larger rotors - no rusty water drip marks when washing car - squeaks not an issue if well maintained - a few HPDE events won't hurt them Above is based on F80 experiences; not sure how G80 floating rear calipers impacts comments. |

For DD seems a little over the top. but if money isn't an option why not
but I had CC on one of the M4s I drove for a little and the squeaking killed me. For me it would be a no go if I had to drive it every day.

Qualification: owning super cars with CCB's from factory. Owned 6 M cars, G80 will be 7.
Carbon Ceramic brakes tend to squeal when not used in the manner you should be using them - braking late braking hard, to get the temp up. So, if they do start squealing then a couple of quick sprints and hard brakes will get rid of that noise. IIRC it's dust sitting on the rotors that needs to be cleaned off. The hard braking brings them up to 'optimal' temp and removes the dust. If you have ever owned a super car and/or spent time on a super car forum, you'd know that nearly all serious track enthusiasts actually remove their carbon ceramic brakes and put an iron/steel setup for the track. The cost of replacing a set of carbon ceramics every 5-7 hard track days is simply not worth it. In the rain you do need to push the brake pedal down harder. However, at city speeds and highway cruising, it's not really an issue. If you're about to get into a collision in heavy rain, I could see regular brakes performing better and potentially saving you more than carbon ceramics. Anybody who says buy carbon ceramic only if you track often, has never had a car with carbon ceramics and doesn't track often. The option is solely for the cool factor. Don't worry about the squeal. Easy to remove by driving hard a bit. If this is to be your daily driver for work, sitting in traffic, then I wouldn't waste the money. Go with StopTech's or Brembo's once they're out if you really need the cool factor. Their calipers will for sure look better anyway. Overall, we don't know enough about you to know why you're even considering this option. I do have one opinion on your build, screw AWD lol. An M3 with AWD is like a Ferrari with FWD. Doesn't make sense. The slip diff makes RWD M cars light years ahead of their non-M counterparts, in regards to traction. ^my message applies to a carbon ceramic brake setup. Not only carbon ceramic pads. |

if you aren't tracking- go ceramic.
slightly shadier in wet conditions for your intial braking but quickly grab thereafter. had them on my f90 comp- absolutely loved them.

So I opted for CCB on g80 for sole reason of brake dust minimization. Sqealing in rain and having to brake hard to prevent squealing will annoy me.
With that said I've heard of installing ceramic pads. Is that a good for reducing brake dust? Is this something i need to do right away before new rotors get too much use? Any other options beside ceramic coating wheels? |

That is the CCB dichotomy: overkill for street driving and cost prohibitive for regular track use .
So what are CCB good for? I'd say they are well suited for someone who intends to take his car to the track 4~8 times over 4-years of ownership.

I think they look beautiful and the low dust is really nice. For a 'gentleman tracker' who takes it easy I'm sure they are a good option. |

If you live in a climate where rain is an often occurrence, do not get CCBs

I'm a track guy 3 to 5 times a year, and will rarely drive it in the rain (have 2 others).
So I want to order the CCBs. Fingers crossed I can squeeze them into my build. |

For the price the charge for them I'm not getting them for any situation. But if you have the money to blow and you like the gold color them go for it. I can't speak to the increased usefulness of them, but I've never had a complaint about the standard brakes.
