Yes, and that's not a bad thing, IMHO.

Thanks for this! From my personal perspective the red (yes, the oh-so-similar-to-the-M8-and-why-is-that-a-bad-thing one) is the holy grail but I don't thing the underlying structure of the front end would support that. I think the second yellow with the traditional 3 vents is very nice, but too much carbon fiber. Can anyone make those carbon portions body color?

So at only 57% for the overall design being loved, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the main feature people don't like, even on the M3 / M4, is the grill. Taken together, the specific poll about the grill vs the poll about the overall design really don't seem to indicate (to me at least) that the majority of forum members like the front bumper.
Yes they are different shapes. They are significantly different and the way they tie in with the bumper and surrounding design language is accentuates those differences. This is the first time that the M version of the lower car has had different shapes. Markus Flasch acknowledged it, numerous posts have been dedicated to it as well.

You're using a G22 grille poll is being used to make inferences about a G80/G82 car. The people who buy that car AND the people who vote in that poll, as well as the products themselves are totally different.

You want to discount the G80/82 poll because it was on the overall design, fine, you can at least make a logical argument there.

You can't (or rather you shouldn't) use the G22 grill poll to discuss the G80/G82 grill and you certainly shouldn't cite it in the context of aftermarket bumper replacement options. Even if YOU don't see big differences in the grill, you have to acknowledge the bumper is just a little tiny bit different.

If I do go for this car, I will ask BMW for a discount of the front bumper kit, paint and fitment. If not, GTS IT IS.

I like the smaller grills in the photoshop pictures better. And I don't see anything wrong with the M3/M4 borrowing the grill or design elements from the M8 which is a beautiful car IMHO. I didn't have to warm up to the M8. It looked great from the beginning. I don't hate the new M3/M4 design but I also didn't have the same reaction as I did for the new 8-series or previous M3/M4 designs.

Please keep us posted as to BMW's response lol (especially when all the NYC dealerships have a waiting list to get an allocation so presumably the car will sell).

I personally have always enjoyed seeing your posts and hope if you get a GTS you will still drop by these forums from time to time.

Much better but that hood line still looks awful due to the two bumps — especially from the side.

I wonder if it’s possible to design a replacement grill that includes a body color filler across the mid bumper area that could be color matched to your car.

I do acknowledge that. And yeah, point taken about the target market / people shopping specifically for a G22 vs G80/G82. Still, there IS a lot of cross shopping there and I don't think those target markets are all THAT far apart.

I'm just looking at how people talk about the core of it being too big. Personally I'd probably take the 2nd to last in the series above. As for the context of aftermarket - I do think it's relevant, because there are a ton of people who buy the cheaper car and gussy it up with body kit parts to make it look like an M car, and there has been plenty of discussion around aftermarket replacements regardless of G22 / G82 base.

I get that it's a sensitive topic for some people but hey man you do you, I'm not saying don't get one or anything just was wondering where you were getting that the majority liked it because I wasn't seeing it / getting that impression / vibe from most of the posts in both the G80 / G82 and G20 / G22 forums.

It's all good.

For the same reason, BMW's new design "change" is not inherently "good." Some change is bad. That is the case for many of us with the design of the grills on the M3/4. Many of us aren't fans, and would like an opportunity to improve its appearance with an aftermarket modification, just as we have done for years.

This aftermarket design options shown here are also "change." And I like some of them!

Sign me up. I would purchase a front end kit like this! To me, it is no different than other cosmetic upgrades I've purchased over the years. Just another "mod" to improve the appearance of my ride.
I happen to like the new huge grills but I agree with you 100%, nothing wrong with that. Wish people would stop labeling each other over this.

Most of those design won't work with an ACC sensor I guess, so it's only for people who don't option the Driving Assistant Professional

I appreciate a spirited discussion. I recognize these grilles are not for everyone. To be honest, I feel lucky I liked them from the start because I am a 6MT nutcase and was getting one unless the thing was so atrociously hideous I stopped caring about convenience and finally got a used GT3.

Not sure about the cross shopping. Maybe more on these models and the M340 and M440 than in the past, as they're more aggressive.

I personally hate the grille on the M440 and love it on the G80. Go figure. Thanks for your perspective.

i could see how the new design is divisive for sure but just reworking the grille makes it look so much worse in my opinion. But thats coming from someone who likes the direction they went lol youve got the two raised humps that curve down nicely into the questionable big grille which is curved back into the rear of the mouth on the bottom and it all may not be your cup of tea because its pretty over the top but it makes sense... when you swap out that grille for one half the size everything looks ridiculous

Seeing as we have to keep going over this subject, even though it has its own thread - The Official G8x Grille Talk Thread https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1744856, can you all at least spell it correctly?

Grill: a grated metal cooking utensil (noun); to cook over direct heat (verb).

Grille: a network of metal, wooden, or plastic bars that acts as a barrier or screen.

The e46 is unique in that it was the last NA 6 in an m car.

The e9x is unique in that it had the first and last v8 put into an m car.

The f8x m is...idk. Not that unique, historically speaking.

The g8x m will be remembered most for it's ___________ the same way the 996 911 is remembered most for its ____________. Resale Values will likely follow the same depreciation curve.
