Grille looked horrible in pictures when G80 was initially launched.

In the recent past, I have seen several M3s in dealerships and kinda got over the look. It looks a lot better in person especially with darker shades. I had F87 on order but cancelled it last week and will most likely taking G80 route.

I did the opposite. Still thought it looked horrible seeing a black one in a dealership while getting an oil change for my F82. Ended up getting an X3M. I miss the manual but do enjoy the S58 though

To each their own I suppose.

Hey man there's more than a few of us rolling in X3M's so the comment is not appreciated.

I was a hater too since day 1 but in person I actually liked the new grills.

I think they just don't look good in the photos mainly due to the chosen angle (not form a normal POV, but down low, super close to the car etc etc) and also distortion of the common cell phone camera lens...

it ain't bad and once they are seen on the street people will start to like them more. I am sure one could design a prettier car but the g80 isn't as bad as the pics appear to be.

"It's not that bad in person..."

I am not sure if anyone has started a thread about this yet, but I am honestly bothered by so many of the "car reviewer's" description of the G80/G82 design. In the articles that I have read and on the videos that I have watched, I keep hearing them criticize the car's front end and other design aesthetics. I have repeatedly heard the phrase "it's not that bad in person" - as if that was supposed to make it acceptable or sound any better. They often say this even when they like the design. This is not a complementary way of describing the car's design and does not give it credit. It would be better to say something more positive like "it actually looks good in person" rather than "it's not that bad in person." I know this has gotten way too much attention in the car (social) media world, so I have tried to take it with a grain of salt. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I would argue that design is a very subjective, opinion based topic. Fortunately, this car has performed well and most people have applauded it for that. I just wish the design critics could see what most of us here see - an aggressive and spot on design that will get noticed not for being unattractive, but the contrary. I mean honestly, it's actually not that bad in person!

I get what you're saying, although I think that was word for word what I said the first time I saw it. It's not the design most of us would have chosen, but now that I have the car I do "like" it.

I hear you my friend and it has annoyed me as well. However I think those guys are just playing it politically correct as to not upset all the F8X diehards who seem to be in the most upset about the design changes. After all if you are a YouTube creator at the end of the day you’re looking for clicks and subscribers so they wanna piss office as few as possible. Ironically they just end up aggravating both sides. Our side because we happen to like it and are annoyed by their comments and the other side because they are looking for people to decimate the new looks and design changes. They would be better off not even talking about it at all.

Honestly, I just think it’s yet another example of internet bandwagoning. It’s the thing to talk about and it’s somehow cool to hate on the front end design or give a subtle insult regardless of how you might really feel. Almost any new design will have fans and detractors.

Anymore the vast majority of “reviewers” are just trying to get views and clicks. There are some who are more entertaining than others but I really don’t pay attention to most of what’s said with a few exceptions.

I couldn't wait for the car to be reviewed and was on my phone all day waiting for the first video. Once revealed, I thought this was the best thing BMW designed in years, love at first sight. Then came all of the negative comments , stupid grill pictures and awful redesigns as if these guys knew more than BMW. I was afraid to spend 80k on a car that would be torpedoed by the press and resale value tanked before you pulled off the lot.

I started looking at the M550i and M5 but 80k for a used car didn't sit well with me for a CPO M5 and M550i was not a true M car. Once it landed at the dealership, I said f@@k the naysayers and I can't wait to order my car September.

Most of us? I am not sure how you came to the conclusion. Have we had a poll on this, yet?

I saw the pictures and then saw it at a BMW event. Hated it more in person, but it's a design I will tolerate.

I trust that the people reacting negatively to the design truly do dislike it. I think there's more to it than that; one has to consider that the current design took the place of a probable shorter, widebody M8. I think there's a lot of resentment and a lot of "sending a strong message to BMW" in the public outcry. Many want this car and all of the other "beaver face" cars to fail so BMW can go back to "normal".

There's a thread in another section of these forums where the regulars literally cheer whenever a formerly consistent M3/M4 buyer orders or purchases something else instead of the G8x. And this is despite the G8x being the best-driving M3/M4 ever by a long shot.

If you like it, great. Who cares what someone else says...at the end of the day it's your money.

I saw one in the flesh for the first time and didn't love it but also didn't hate it.

If you think YouTubers etc. are trying to pander to the F8X crowd I think you may need to take off your tinfoil hat, however.

I was referring to the "most of us" here on this forum. Maybe that wasn't completely fair, but many of us liked it enough to purchase one.

Speaking for myself, I cannot buy a car unless I am really in love with every aspect of it.

Most car reviewers don’t know what they are talking about and just repeat what they have heard from others or read online. Honestly who cares about what they say. If you like the car you like it and if you don’t you don’t. That simple. As for resale value most car reviewers cannot afford this car anyway so i can’t see how their opinion counts.

Some of the most sought after cars today are ones that were considered ugly or unconventional when they were first introduced.

don't consider reviewer's verdict at all. I liked it, I bought it. And if other will tell me that it has a wierd front end, I'll anser "so good, nobody elese will have it in my town".

I really don't care about what others say.

Loved it the first time I saw a picture, loved it even more when seeing in person. If we all liked the same things life would be boring!

People love the look of the Teslas, to me they are bland!

Well the only way to truly poll these things is sales. Peoples opinion don’t mean crap until money is spent. So if we use money/sales as the poll this car blows away its predecessor quite significantly actually. It’s true. Look it up. Call your local dealership and ask them. So be honest with me. As a hater does this hurt your feelings? Knowing you are in the minority I mean?
