Did Awron clean up their management act? I had what was basically a bricked display with never one response from the company.

That said this is interesting. Will it work on a pre lci f97?

I know. A few years ago the owners got greedy and vin-locked the f3/f8x vent display units they were selling. I only found this out when moving from one car to another I owned. Absolutely no support or answer to various emails from the company. Not even a reply to tell me, sorry you are out of luck. That said Tom did actually confirm for me that the units were likely vin-locked and that they as a vendor did not have the ability to unlock it. Finally tracked down a former employee on LinkedIn that was able to help me out with a display reset.

This controller seems a bit more simple, but my distaste for Awron remains.

thanks EAS and Tom for the thread. Still trying to sort out what to do with my exhaust but I do like the ease of having the OE push button being able to open the valves to 100%.

I'm with Indo Rider after reading the thread on the VCS-2 controller and I also have some neighbors that I'd prefer not to piss off at 0 dark thirty in the morning.

rx8wanki I'm curious, was the install fairly easy? TIA

F97 X3M is available, in stock.

Wiring harness is provided with BMW connectors. Connections are made at the BDC control module behind the passenger side kick panel.

One of our earlier installs (not on forum) provided a review of the AWRON module to share:

Quote:
Great product! Works exactly as expected. I have mine set to always open and as most know, the sound with the valves open is way better. I love the feature of just being able to hit the exhaust button on the center console though and close the valves on demand. Especially helpful when I start up in the early morning in the garage with my kid asleep upstairs. It’s also convenient to start up with the valves closed when the engine idle goes up on cold start in order to warm the cats. Just push the button, close the valves and it’s quieter. Then just hit the button when the idle drops and then back to normal with the valves open. Totally plug and play, undetectable and easily reversible. Great mod.

I’m assuming they didn’t change the need to cut the signal wire coming from the DME connector? Only thing I liked better about the Leib kit, that’s similar to this but doesn’t seem updatable, was that it came with a harness that intercepted the signal wire at the actuator instead. That being said I stole that idea and grabbed the stuff to make my own so if I want to rip it out, without any lasting effect, I can. I also plan to add a usb hub in the glovebox or somewhere. So I can use a single usb cable to my laptop for this, my AF amp, whatever else usb configurable I might add in the future, and maybe even an ODB cable. For a single point of connection within the limitations of usb of course (16ft-Ish with an unpowered hub or cable). Could even use an ODB splitter to still have a wireless dongle plugged in to have a complete set and forget solution.

Also, Awron should update their site for the added features as I had to email them a while back about how it’s activated. As they only mention the steering wheel button.

EDIT: I wonder if they could add a feature to enable the “M-mode” cluster when using the button? Assuming they parse the can-bus packets they could send the “M-mode” packet when detecting an m1 or m2 button press packet, but not both. I might have to email them an ask…

Any others on here install this controller and have feedback/insight? Is this 100% reversible to bring back to OEM function for the ASD button?

I really like the OEM style integration with the center console exhaust button.
Little worried install will be a pain, but I'm pretty decent with working on cars.

Bouncing between this or a Dinan or Dahler controller, but the Dahler is even more and still have the little controller to use or take up a home link button.

This seems like a really good option considering the OEM like integration and features.

Kit is 100% reversible if desired. OEM integration, flash upgradable and not requiring an additional key FOB are the big advantages over the other units being offered.

This is a DIY install, you should have no problem installing the Awron unit.

Yes, only 2 wires are cut (easily reverted if needed) as this is set up as gateway module - it needs to intercept and inject needed signals to operate the valves on demand and throughout the set profile. This is how the Awron unit has much more options than other traditional controllers - its fully integrated.

Other wires at BDC module are handed in a provided plug and play harness.

Im a little bit confused. I understand valve operation with use of consol button but am Im loosing different valve opening level between sport and sport plus?
It seems like either its closed or fully open ?
Wondering can I made some programming tricks to have valve opening adjusted per my preferences?

I had it installed at EAS a couple of weeks ago and I think it’s a great mod for the $. I was considering going with a mid pipe but having the valves open to 100% is loud enough for me.

Awesome! I ordered from Tom at EAS and it should be to me today or tomorrow so I'll report back once I have her installed.

You'll love it. This is one of those gotta-have mods that you which you'd installed earlier, especially with the OEM integration.

Thinking about jumping on this one. Just wondering what the splice is for on the ECU wire? Does it connect to the box? Any better installation instructions?

Correct, it connects to the box to initialize the needed commands for valve control. This is all detailed in the included instructions.

How is that routed to the inside? The instructions on the AWRON website just say which one to cut/splice and nothing else.

There are a couple of rubber grommets from the cabin area that enter into the engine compartment that are easy to spot when installing that can be used, located near the BDC module.

Mates, anyone can comment on above please ? Will this upgrade take away various opening levels base on Comfort, Sport and Sport +? Will all this go away and will be either closed or wide open?

Yes, two modes…either open or closed.
I like it so much I’ve left it on open full time even when the engine is in Comfort.

Wouldn't there be three modes? Forced open, forced closed, and bypassed (stock behavior).
