Will We Ever See An OBD Tune?
It's been really quiet regarding a tune for the G8x series. I'm hoping that eventually one of the speed shops will unlock the ECU enabling an OBD tune. If so, I would be all over it like I was when I had my M8.

Matter of time man. Same happened with F80x gen, hopefully by next year we should see reputable tuners releasing their tune. Waiting for BM3 myself.

M Engineering has an OBD flash tune for the 992s now. You would think one of these outfits should soon have one for the M3/M4.

I had BM3 back in 2017 on my F80 M3 comp running the CS map. Ah those where my funnest tuning days. It was so easy and it just worked great. I never had a single issue. I still have my BM3 wifi dongle thing too. I dont plan to tune this one. But if they make their way to the G8X platform I know I will want too. lol.

We will soon. Would rather wait for something tested and true than something rushed to market.

New to the BMW community. What's a OBD tune? Doesn't the JB4 offer this? Or are you referring to open code tuning?
https://burgertuning.com/collections...-g8x-bmw-m3-m4 Or is it safer/better to wait for a Dinan tune?

In case its helpful, a piggyback like JB4 just spoofs various inputs that the ECU uses to determine boost, etc. It's not changing anything about the ECU coding itself. In theory, a piggyback can be safer than an actual tune because the piggyback can't change any built-in coding that protects the engine. But the dealer could detect any irregularity caused by the piggyback; for example, if the stock max boost is say, 24 psi, but the ECU has logged a max of say, 28 psi (as a result of the piggyback), then that could cause some headaches. |
