I remember it vivdly as I had a 645ci as soon as BMW reintroduced the 6er and then got a new E63 S85 M6. Beautiful designs for the time. Your point?

Not so sure....I believe the days of small kidneys are gone for a loong time....
EVs are the next focus, they all come with big kidneys as well, so I more believe, all other models will slowly be adapted to this new kidney strategy instead of going back...

See this as a „accommodation of customers" to the EV design language

They were so beautiful in fact they lasted for such a short time before wholesale changes were made to iron out a few not so beautiful kinks; the same will happen with the G8x starting with the front bumper

No such thing happened with the E63, you are confused with the E65 7er.

And no one, not one reviewer ever spoke about the 6er design like with the G cars. There is no reason to search for an answer to justify the G design fail- which has nothing to do with the performance and no one is arguing that fact.

But its a buttaface (ie but-her-Face) design and everyone knows that in their heart.

Fair point, I concede, the E65 then, the end result will still be the same when it comes to the G8x (although I think both the E63 and E65 were praiseworthy for all the wrong reasons)

The man responsible for the E65 7 and the ‘Bangel Butt’ Adrian van Hooydonk is currently running the design show at BMW.

I personally think the Bangel era at BMW was necessary. As is the current design language.

Even with a good chunk of enthusiasts sitting out this thing is still selling like hot cakes.

BMW likes money.

While your making predictions, who's going to win the World Series (not this year, 2022 obviously)?

You know the majority of forum members who have seen the car in person favor it nearly 3-1 yet the number of people who have already declared this generation a failure is increasing.

Doubtful. It will all come down to sales. If they sell like crap, then perhaps. But if it sells well, as it appears to be doing so far, they will keep going. Be interesting to see what they do with the next M2, that may be telling, but BMW isn't going to back down that easily admitting any kind of failure.

I may have missed it but has anyone rendered what it would look like to simply paint the black inset piece that covers the bumper support as it spans the grille? That might break things up enough to avoid some of the other solutions that look as bad or worse.

I did some quick renders when the first photos came out... the bottom one took into consideration the two sensors I had covered with the top render. But in the end, not sure it looks any better. lol

No I'm not being biased and no I won't be "jumping on the bandwagon" but when you look at the passed 4 generations they had a proper well balanced front end.

I know it may seem like some are beating a dead horse regarding the front end but I promise a beat up dead horse looks more appealing. Sorry I'm not sorry
BMW has billions invested into the kidney grills while most EV cars are removing grills altogether. The kidneys becoming less functional and more of a integrated design statement makes sense with the EV era right around the corner. .

Get used to it or might be time to just move to another brand.

If you read what I had mentioned about previous generations I had stated that they had proper well balanced front ends. Nothing about this new front end is balanced or proper. I don't care if the new EV era is coming along. That sounds like you're trying to justify the poor talent of the designers to just give up and draw two massive lungs on the front. A detail oriented designer with a little bit of style could have created 1 million different configurations that would trump the current front end. And that's including the hood which is absolutely sad.

That still looks like crap.

It's not just the size of the grills but also the ugly hexagon shape and the random boxy lines on the hood

Someone needs to release a G20 3-series front end swap (while keeping the wider fenders)

Not sure why the BMW designers tried to reinvent the wheel when the G20 m340i was a pretty good looking car. All they needed to do was add some wider fenders and slightly more aggressive ducts on the bumper and it would have looked great.

i watched the chris harris review on the bottom of the apiller design being weird, but it reminds of the e60 m5 which i think has aged nicely...
let me clarify, I'm talking about the G80 M3 in the original post of this thread, as well as the g8X M3/M4 in general... not the G20 m340i pic that I posted.

The part where the grille meets the hood. Most of the car has smooth flowing lines and then you have that part looking like it was just slapped on last minute. It doesn't fit the rest of the car at all.

i like it
aggressive flared nostrils if you will, above a gaping mouth
it looks mean as hell
and an evolution of before.
not a freak show (actual production)
