This isn't a disaster. If you were going to get any shipping damage, the bumper is where you would want it. Just get it replaced and maybe ask for a grand off or something. It's not that big of a deal.

Hence, I ended up with a G80 instead. To the OP, hopefully they make good on it for you. |

It is a brand new M-car for the owner. Its a big deal. Period. I would say the same if it was your post as the OP. Im amazed at the denial of this for the OP. He should ask tough and demanding questions including a discount. It his business and RIGHT TO DO SO!

There isn't an easy answer to this situation. Refusing delivery of this vehicle will probably mean a long wait for another one from the factory. If you are willing to wait that may be the best answer but there no guarantees there won't be some sort of damage to the next one. Normally there isn't damage but it is always a possibility.
Repairing and repainting the bumper - because it is flexible - presents some potential risks of problems down the road even if it looks great when the repair is complete. It will be interesting to see if the dealer offers you a discount knowing what the wait time would be for a replacement. If they do it should be substantial enough to cover any future issues you may have resulting from the repair. I would also want to be sure that the damage will not show up on a Carfax report. |

As others have noted, this happens all the time and is usually fixed at the VPC without the buyer ever knowing about it.
It likely happened from a bicycle collision. There will be no discount, there will be no replacement bumper, you guys need to join us over here in reality-land. And the repair will be fine, you'll never know it happened.

OP, I’d ask for a warranty on the paint and maybe a little off the car and enjoy it. It won’t be the last blemish this car gets. |

If the OP tries to get 5k off the dealer will laugh and the car would be sold by the end of the day and the person who buys it would have no idea. If this was a car readily available you *might* have some negotiating power but you really don’t. They’ll fix it and you won’t know and your have the pleasure of having the M3 you ordered without another long wait. Life’s too short to worry about this kind of stuff. It’s going to get scratched anyway unless it’s a museum piece in your garage. |

I would let them repair and then decide if I take it or leave it. Maybe ask dealer for small discount “to smooth it over” if u decide to take it. |

That ain't no scratch, it looks like it could be punctured.

My car was damaged in shipping, on an individual color and it was worse than this. Calm down.

Currently my plan is asking for $1k discount. And some free giveaways. I think this is reasonable for both seller and buyer. What do you think? |

I had a paint defect on a brand new Porsche Cayman. It was the size of a pencil tip (1mm x 1mm), discoloration on the roof. Super super tiny but to fix would require painting full top of the car. I fought Porsche NA for a couple months but eventually got a $5K check from them as a make good. I dabbed the smallest amount of touch up on it with one of those sponge tip brushes and moved on.

Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t accept the car without a discount -5-10k is ridiculous tho
Firstly, did they replace the bumper with a new one? If not how did they repair the hole? Secondly, if they repaired the original did they respray color on the whole bumper or just the repaired area? Either way you’re going to end up with different looking texture in the paint but if they resprayed the whole bumper with color how much time did they spend color matching? Bumpers never match 100 percent to body cause they are different materials (plastic vs metal) but a diff shade/color of front vs rear bumper to metal would drive me crazy on a brand new car Last edited by gemini.m3; 11-18-2023 at 04:24 PM.. |
