Liability reasons I assume.
'Ok, we didn't sell the function to you. Therefore, releases BMW from any liability' lol

There is some canadian place that has a plug-n-play-ish setup. Requires a spare key and has some caveats and is $$$.

Kinda sucks we can't get the option.

Have you done this or know someone who has with 6MT?

It’s $100 but it says you must already have the option in the car so not sure if it’s possible with 6MT

Hello everyone, I know this is an old thread...but I've been very interested in this. Looks like the options through BMW are unavailable...but has anyone with a manual added an after market remote start?

There are aftermarket remote start systems for manual transmissions. I recall them about 20 years ago. I can see it being a safety issue for a manufacturer but aftermarket companies don’t care. You would need to leave the car in Nuetral with the parking brake set or the safeties won’t allow the car to start.

I definitely understand the safety risk...I'd still like it haha

Do you or anyone on here have or know anyone who has this and uses it, etc?

Reviving this old thread. Anyone figure out how to get remote start for the manual?

THERE IS NO SAFETY ISSUE!!

the car knows what gear you're in (it tells you on the dash and rev match, etc). if your car is in gear it wont start. somebody earlier in this thread mentioned that when tried to start it in gear the app said the car didnt' meet the requirements

very frustrating as i would love to have this feature.

Number 1, DON’T YELL!
Number 2, with all the mods people are doing when unlocking their DME you don’t think someone will unlock something they shouldn’t given it’s software that would determine if the car is in gear? How naive.

You have a 6 MT so you don’t get remote start from the factory. You can whine all you want but it won’t happen, ever. So you can continue whining or find an aftermarket solution.

Jesus Christ these are certainly first-world issues🤪

to be fair it literally did happen. BMW developed and released remote start for the 6MT through the connecteddrive store. People bought it and installed it and it worked. Then they removed it, refunded the people who purchased it, and tried to remotely remove the feature from the cars. They were unable to force it though, i personally had it on my 6MT for 2 years until i sold the car.

i'm a passionate man what can i say??

so are you seriously saying that since with some aftermarket modifications the remote start can potentially be started in gear then BMW shouldn't do it?? with that logic almost anything in the car can potentially be dangerous...

i'm not whining. i'm fine with it. just saying that its not a safety issue.. and yes its a first world problem but we are in a bmw forum after all... you can feel free to go back to the fiat forum and talk about your third world problems

Someone needs to make this happen. Femto said they could do it but when I sent my ECU in for unlocking they changed and said its not available anymore so im not sure what happened with that. Would be awesome to have when its 10 degrees F outside like it is today

Passion is fine but I deal with a-holes all day that like to use all caps so I’m passionate about that as it’s YELLING

Until I get banned, I’ll go where I want and post what I want so if you don’t like it feel free to “ignore” me or you can go somewhere else. Not sure what Fiat forums has to do with anything but whatever.

The reason BMW pulled this was it was an error to allow M6 drivers to purchase and buy it. Trust me, BMW will never release a remote start option for the M6.

not correct. the feature had 6MT-specific information directly embedded into the software. on-screen info regarding requirements to have the transmission in N, etc. It was clearly intentionally developed for the 6MT. released by mistake was BMW NAs excuse which was provided to the buyers.

cool.. but coming into the G8x forum and saying something is a first world problem is hilarious.. ya i know its a first world problem.. we're in a bmw forum...

and again your logic about the safety is flawed. Maybe bmw shouldn't install turbos on the engines because people have found ways to increase the psi in the turbos which could lead to safety issues..

Well....didn't mean to start a war...moving forward...since its not a factory option any more, as has been well established... does anyone have or found a solution with after market stuff etc? Many thanks!

This is just like McDonalds having to add a warning that coffee is hot. They did this as they got sued for someone getting burned.
BMW does not want to leave the door open for a lawsuit because some idiot figured out a way to bypass the remote start safety’s and run over someone due to it having remote start. I agree in theory with what you are saying but people are stupid thus the stupid warning that McDonalds coffee is hot😂

My last reply to you.. but you may want to look up the actual McDonald’s coffee story. They were in the wrong. But the facts have a way of getting twisted. Seriously look it up. Interesting story
