Very true. I can say, a lot of what we make here has been in the plant for 10-15 years with Coldforming and Hydromat machining centers (high volume). We just started making new valve lifters for GM, which is where this project stemmed from, and would be my saving grace since every other operation has been ran dry at this point. I'm expected to hit 6% of annual sales as a cost savings, so roughly $180,000 goal.

Nobody in my position has been able to make a savings anywhere near $700k on a single project in this plant, so I'm hoping it will speak volumes and I'll get the credit I deserve. If not, I'm going to be making a lot of calls, and if that doesn't work, I may have to find a place that will respect and credit the work I put in.

Heh, I'm more like an 80%, but I love my life, so it all works out.

Unfortunately only a small portion is based on the savings itself. I get a fixed amount for hitting my goal. The other portion that really adds up the bonus is our profit margin, only problem with that is, some of our management wants us to mark up only 6%, when the goal is >17.99%. How we're supposed to manage that, makes no sense, so that's been another issue, too.

Then theres some if the people from Eaton put in a good review for me for the year.

Gotta walk the fine line between promoting yourself and annoying yourself to superiors, keep toeing it and the cream will rise to the top!

The doors on my saab just loathe staying open when parked, they are always shutting on passengers as they try and get out of the car. Annoying.

I recently toured a saab warehouse. There were parts that don't move in years, gathering dust. I asked the mgr. do they still make saab? He said no, we try to tell them not to bother stocking these parts, but they insist. There were also GM parts in that warehouse.

I know they were yuppie cars in the 80's, but today they seem irrelevant.

Well yeah, they've been dead for years. but the car still runs, i have an 08 with 50,000 miles. To replace it with something new and equivalent spec will be near $50K ... no thanks, i'll drive it till it dies, not because i really LOVE it but it's good enough and close enough to what i can buy new.

My buddies and I actually make quite a few #modesty jokes due to some of the nicer cars and successful friends that we know.

A friend just ordered a new Aventador SV but has to wait a year for it to arrive, oh the injustice!

Haha, I have good ones.

My inlaws are visiting and unlike my family, I love them to bits. They have always put their time and money where we have needed them and when my father was dying and I needed someone to take care of our kids, they handled every bloody thing we couldn't. I walked back home at 3am, dead on my feet and my mother-in-law made me eat so I could do everything again the next day.

They came here a week and a half ago, and they are staying in our house unlike my family did on their visit, issue has been that my mil refuses to eat. She claimed she'd get fat.

It took a week and me bying a scale that she confessed she was trying not to make their visit costly to us.

So, I've had a mother-in-law eating toast so she wouldn't cost us money since she knows as my guests which I love to have here again, I don't let them pick up bills for anything.

There is no first world problem worse than this.

About 6 months ago I got a bill from my eye care insurer for overage charges for an exam and a pair of glasses from some clinic in Riverside, CA. I've never been to Riverside. So I called the insurer (Eye Med) and told them the charge was wrong. The rep asked me if she could put me on hold for a brief moment while she looked into it. Having no choice, I said fine. Then this horrifying new age music starts. Same 4 or 5 bars over and over and over. After an hour of letting my cell phone sit on the desk spewing this musical diarrhea, I hung up. Two hours later I get a call back from the rep apologizing for the long hold time and telling me that there were two people in their system with my exact name and they had charged the wrong one and that it would be all taken care of in the next day or two.

Today I went to get new glasses and they told me my insurance records still show that I got a new pair about 6 months ago.

I call Eye Med, finally get past their idiotic virtual CSR and talk to a real person, and tell her the whole story. She asks if she can put me on a brief hold to look into it.

After 35 minutes of the same horrid music, she gets back on the line and apologizes for the long hold time. Then she tells me that she sees where someone in Riverside billed the wrong person and that it would be cleared up in a few days. I try not to yell at CSRs because I know they're clueless and aren't the ones really responsible for the lousy way the company treats customers. But this time I almost lost it. It was a repeat of the last conversation I had with one of their people 6 months ago almost verbatim.

I told her this and she says she sees where they were waiting for a call back from the Riverside clinic's supervisor and that call never happened. Of course they never followed up on it either. She said she would call me back in 3 business days to update me on the progress of this mess. We'll see if that happens.

Worst customer service ever.

Jokes aside, this is what drives people insane. The stress dealing with things like this in a time-poor world just wears you down. Then they wonder why people go postal.

Imagine if you weren't as well off as 6, and the payments to get your broke glasses meant you couldn't eat for a few days. Just how long can we expect 6 to survive on Mike-N-Ikes???

The glasses I have are fine. It's my eyes that are failing. Sux getting old. I need new lenses. Trifocals, even. The insurance only pays for one pair and I need two plus prescription sunglasses, so I'm going to foot the bill for two pairs anyway.

This is the second time having a common first and last name has caused me grief. I wish my parents had been a tad more creative when I was born.

A friend wants to buy a P1 but his best option is silver and another friend already has a grey one. He's trying to hold out for orange but they're asking quite a bit more.

Ah the struggles of the one percent...
