No Digital Key Plus for anything older than full iD8.5 or iD9 (all G8x won't be getting "full" iDrive 8.5, not even LCI)

LCI will be getting a weird mix of 8 and 8.5 (I believe they called it iDrive 8.5 M Edition).

It will continue to have a similar bottom bar from iDrive 8, so no button shortcuts, but they've ported over the climate control menu from 8.5, so it has the 8.5 climate setup and the shortcut to heated/cooled seats and heated wheel (not 100% on that last part).

It will also be iDrive 8.5 under the hood with the newer Headunit so it should be a bit more performant as well.

Thanks for the info. Since it has 8.5 it will be able to upgrade to ID 9 if that becomes available?

iD9 is not a direct upgrade to 8.5.

iD9 is a different implementation of the same interface in 8.5. There's some detail doc floating around but it's basically: iD8.5 is a certain Headunit version and a 1:3 ratio instrument cluster to infotainment width. iD9 is a "newer" version that has similar processing power and a 1:2 ratio instrument cluster to infotainment width (see the new X1)

Functionality and user interface between the two is identical.
