Need input on winter wheel/tire set for 2021 M4 Comp pls!
Hi all!
I've got a 2021 M4 Comp w/standard brakes arriving in my driveway next month, but I live in MI and it's currently got PS4S tires on it. Since the OEM staggered setup is 275/35/ZR19 in the front and 285/30/ZR20 in the rear, I was going to transition to a square setup for Winter. From reading other threads here, it looks like 275/35R19 all around would be a viable setup? Here's what I have for current Winter wheel/tire possibilities with these specs (pics below): First vendor: 275/35R19 P Zero Winter Run Flats on 19x9.5 (+35) wheels. Second vendor: 275/35R19 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 tires on either 19x9.5 (+20) wheels OR 19x19.5 (+34) wheels. Not sure what to look for regarding offset for this car, but any and all input is much appreciated! Thank you! |

What are you wanting out of a winter tire. Those two tires are in two different categories.
The Pzero Winters are the best performance winter tire on the market and are a great pair for this platform. Although can you find the BMW star ones that aren't run flats? The Nokians are probably the best overall winter tire on the market and excell in really crap conditions. They are more of a pure winter tire that will sacrifice performance when the roads are dry. |

I'm in a similar predicament, I had a suby that i ran as a winter machine but blew up the engine so planning to drive my M3 this winter, what do you guys think about dropping to a smaller wheel, ie 18" all around that way you can rotate the rears to the front from season to season. I did that on my suby and it worked great. I'm assuming they will fit as some M3's ship with 18" on front.

I would recommend running 19”, or even better 18” that clear steel brakes, because you’ll have a taller sidewall which reduces stiffness and improves grip in snow conditions. As for 20”, I see three winter performance tire options in 275/35-20. I have experience with the Pirelli Sottozero 3 tires on my G20 and F22. They perform well in cold, wet, and light-moderate snow conditions. Haven’t had the opportunity to try them in heavy snow conditions yet. Much better winter performance than an AS tire and they wear well when used in dry conditions.
