so 75% of people on the enthusiast forum said they are fine with AWD, which is probably because they know it could shed insane time off of the 0-60 times. hopefully BMW is paying attention and doing their market research here. Anyone who is still hardcore, manual transmission and RWD only is perfectly happy with the M2, move the M3 on to AWD like the M5 with the option to defeat it, I would guess most of us are fine with the extra 150 lbs it will add to make it that much more versatile.

I for one am considering 5-6 other cars right now (all with AWD) including all the new performance SUVs coming to market, but if I found out the G80 would be AWD, I would stop looking...

For me it just became a firm yes surely.

Best look yet at M340i, 0-60 4.2 seconds, available Spring 2019 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1541176

If the M340i comes with 380Hp and 4.2s to 60mph. Surely the G80 will need M X drive to diffidently best these figures? I know it's absolutely not all about tragic light GP but...

We NEED AWD to be fast in the real world at this point.

If I want a RWD track car, I'd just get an M2; Besides at this point I think the M2 is the new M3 and the M3 is the old M5
Agree.

Also with the performance stats out for the G30 M340i surely the G80 will need M Xdrive to maintain the performance gap. I would love that extra peace of mind for wet uk roads.

Driving to work in 50F rainy dark weather today reminded me of how this season changes everything about my driving habits in RWD. I love my E92 M3 but this time of year just takes the fizz out of it and in the PNW this weather is 50% of the year. I am 100% in if I can get an M car with M-xDrive.

I'm in the PNW also, and when it's raining I have to drive my f80 like a grandma off the line at every stop light or I'll start going sideways. I've already spooked a few people in the adjacent lane and I was barely giving it gas on any of those occasions. I've been keeping a close eye on any rumors of xDrive coming to the next M3 because I'm tired of not being able to use most of that power. It's not much fun to drive most of the year here.

You know there is $30,000 difference between an M3 and an M5, right?

I hope if it will come with X-drive it will have the option to disengage the center diff. and it doesn't become too heavy. Have driven some X-drive bimmers and not a fan at all....

Coming from Audi S3/S4/S5/RS5 which have the best sport AWD all around IMO, I just got an M3 Comp because I like the RWD experience.

AWD is definitely better for putting down a faster more consistent 0-60 time and win a drag race. But permanent AWD will always feel under steer and heavy around corners. You won't enjoy it unless you live in a place where you can constantly do brutal acceleration to triple digits... I like how my M3 can melt rubber and slide like it is driving over butter even at 40 mph if I push it. Different experience...

If the M3 becomes permanent AWD I'll probably go back to Audi as it won't have the same experience for me anymore....

Rain or shine, I've never had my M4 going sideways at a stop light when driving normally. If you're going sideways you either need new tires or let up on the gas.

Ruomors says that there will be the choice of a "pure" RWD M3 and an MXdrive M3 as well, with the same system of the M5 (in this case, you have also the option to switch off the front wheels if you want a pure RWD drive).

If it's true, I'll 100% switch my RWD M140i with the M3 M.X-Drive version.

Could be the tires, but if it is then the stock continentals it came with must be really awful. I had traction issues even when they were new. The last time it happened I was truly shocked at how little gas it took to slip in the rain at a light. Normally I barely give it any because I know how poor the traction is, but I gave it a tiny bit more that time just to pull ahead of a minivan and that's all it needed for the rear tires to break loose. I can drive it safely in the rain without going sideways, but I have to really baby the throttle and slowly roll off at each light. I cant use any of the cars power for a good portion of the year here.

X drive can already be turned off with coding to disable the transfer box. Wouldn't be that hard to add it to an I drive menu.
