Should I be concerned? Accidentally over reviving new G80 xDrive

Coming out of dealer after break in service at 1,150 miles, I decided to try launch control on my G80 xDrive for the first time.

Well I messed it up, and lifted the break before it was ready to launch. The car rushed to 7,000sh RPMs in first gear, really loud and started to bounce in the redline. It scared the life out of me, so after like three or four bounces I finally reacted and shifted paddle to second gear.

Car seemed fine, I tried one more time and it launched like a beautiful beast.

Should I be concerned with long term damage? Or any potential impact to performance down the road?

No, not even a little bit. The rev limiter worked as designed.

That has happened to every one of us. It's embarrassing but the rev limiter does it's job.

Welcome to the club brother! I feel sometimes the paddle's don't register fast enough, but that's probably just looking for me to shift blame away from myself.

If you watch some of the manufacturer Ring time videos you will see their drivers on the limiter a LOT in certain sections when driving manuals. Typically this is because making the shift will cost more time than gained by the shift. I think it was the old Viper ACR video where he rode the limiter for what seemed like 3 minutes total in the video.

In other words, don't worry about it. It is impossible to damage a modern motor through use of the throttle. The maximum engine speeds are well above redline and the electronics keep drivers from getting anywhere near max.

Now a $$$$$ shift where you hit second instead of fourth while accelerating is a different discussion.

I over revved twice and my car has 228 miles on it. If the damn shifter wasn't so confusing, I'd know the car was in manual instead of auto.

Hitting the limiter isn't an over rev. What you should worry about is revving the motor high while the engine is cold.

Limegrntaln, I don't have time to reeve this beast of a car. It just sits in the garage. Only have 25 miles on it ( 2 weeks). It also rain in Southern Cali.

I'll rephrase that. Not so much "overrev" overrev as far as break in period goes.
