Any one running this intake without the carbon fiber covers? Are they necessary or more of a cosmetic thing?

Adding covers can certainly assist in keeping the air temperature lower, which, in theory, contributes to better performance. That being said, there isn't concrete data showing significant horsepower gains specifically attributable to covers.

Similarly, while carbon fiber is supposed to be an upgrade, its impact on performance is mostly negligible. A lot of customers choose carbon fiber components more for their aesthetic appeal rather than performance benefits.

So, if you're considering the covers mainly as a cosmetic upgrade, it could be a great addition to enhance the overall look of your engine bay.

I’ll start by saying that this thing is gorgeous. I looked through all options and in my opinion, nothing came close visually to Armaspeed. I previously had their carbon intake on my MKV Supra and it was fantastic so I knew I’d keep a look out for their product on the G80 as well.

The G80 system is certainly many more pieces so I was worried about shipping. The packaging it arrived in was great (and very quick I might add). Everything was wrapped securely and all labeled very nicely.

The kit included very thorough installation instructions. This install took me about 25-30 minutes from start to finish. The fitment of everything was great and no having to “force” anything to work or fit like other brands I’ve seen.

This comes in priced at $1,580 I think it was with the radiator cover optional at an additional $300. I feel it isn’t cheap, but there will be more expensive competitors like Eventuri when they release. This is why I gave pricing an 9.5. - All the carbon and as many pieces are included, it’s certainly not expected to be cheap by any means. - I feel like it’s priced accordingly and in line.

The sounds it produces is glorious. Is nice to finally hear the induction of the turbos. This is how these cars should sound! Even under light partial throttle you hear them spooling! I just got the installation done last night so I was excited to share about. We have some rain the next couple of days, but I’ll be posting up some sound clips for you guys soon!

Overall, I highly recommend and would certainly buy again! These do not require tuning, so it’ll be plug n play and you’re ready to ride after install. Feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions!
From owning M cars since 6 years already and doing track/rally in intermediate, armaspeed intakes were always the cheapest carbon ones and the ones with the worst reviews... and seeing this new intake, i'm sure it won't change. not sure why you would put covers everywhere and hide this beautiful S58 and keep the hot air even more. it looks awful.... sorry this is a NO for me.

I really like my armaspeed for the price. I'd get the eventuri if wanted to spend twice as much. Next time I'm cleaning filters I'll install studs with flange nuts instead of trying to align those tiny machine screws for the panel covers, which is my only complaint.

Absolutely love them. They’re top notch quality.
Look AMAZING from the front grills and under the hood, gets tons of compliments too.
Sound much louder on the outside and just overall more direct colder air is always better.
100% worth.

Agreed I doubt the covers prevent heat soak.

Some issues have developed over my past year of ownership. They're also claiming their warranty begins when the part is delivered to distributor and only them and vivid racing are approved to sell them so any other dealer has no warranty.

Google album shows rust on filters. V brace wearing into passenger side carbon cover panel. The two cross pipe support tabs wearing into oem finish as well as own.

You could, but if you are doing so, then why buy an expensive carbon intake?

The cover in my opinion is what makes it stand out

I was told vivid racing is the only approved vendor. Wouldn't that mean Mike at x-ph doesn't have a warranty either?
