I think you're a bit confused with the nomenclature here.

Equal lengths is referring to the physical lengths of each of the pipes in the midpipe. The F80 M3 had unequal lengths, which is part of the reason why it sounded so godawful and farty. Going with a single midpipe means there is no equal or unequal lengths.. because there's only one pipe, hence the name: single midpipe. Going with a single midpipe removes a lot of the rasp, which is what I experienced with the AA single midpipe on my old F80. I'm going the same route with my G80 and coupling it with catless dp's/Remus race axle back for a raucous and intense sound.

BMW's original midpipe setup for the G8X is actually equal lengths from the factory, which is why it doesn't sound as awful farty as the S55, but it still doesn't sound very good with all the restrictive resonators and what not.

No confusion here. I've owned several F80 M3's with several different exhaust configurations and we are all aware of why the F80 sounded like trash including BMW. Hence the OEM equal length set up on the G80.

My F80's had several different exhaust configurations including the AA single mid pipe and it still sounded raspy. Single mid pipe merges the gasses but did nothing for fixing the unequal length of the exhaust.

Why do you think AA made a true equal length for the F80?

Right, but the point still stands that a single midpipe can't really be labeled as equal or unequal length because it is a singular pipe that can't be equal in length to another pipe, since it doesn't exist. Your original point was that this AA single midpipe will make the S58 sound like the S55 because it turns it into an unequal setup is what's not quite correct.

Even then, you cannot compare the S55 and the S58. The S55 with catless dp's + single midpipe does not sound similar to the S58 with catless dp's + single midpipe as is evident in these videos:

Active posted a few clips on their Instagram. I will post more once I get the midpipe on my M4, but it won't be anytime soon

If you’ve heard the Valvetronic midpipe, does it sound similar to it?

Mike, random question, but do you have any idea how the recent software update will affect the AA exhaust? I hate the new “refined” sound and hoping the mid pipe will cancel this out.

My understanding is that this only effects the fake sound pumped in through the speakers. There is no software update that would truly change an exhaust tone.
