G82 M4 2022 questions regarding extra stuff that dealership sells

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi All,
Do let me know if you get "wheel protection" (Allstate) for your M3/M4? I remember the prior dealership sold me this insurance on my run flats and they changed a wheel but I was in NJ and I remember there being nothing wrong with the wheel as I had just come in for a service. Cost $1985
Second thing is this 3M stuff through Allstate which is supposed to protect the clear coat against bird droppings etc. $800
I know its an expensive car and in the bigger scheme of things considering the total cost this stuff isn't a whole lot but I just don't want to spend for something that is really not needed... But do let me know.
I am getting some ppf though.
Thanks

Depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle, how bad the roads are in your area, and how you drive.

Personally, I don't plan on purchasing any additional/extended warranties for my pending MY2023 M3 since I will most likely trade the vehicle in for something else in a couple years.

I do plan on having PPF applied to the nose (front bumper, first 12" to 16" of the hood, front part of fenders, headlights, mirror caps) to cut down on the amount of stone chips. Around my area this costs about $1k.

I plan to keep it. I like it a LOT! and will push it ... my ppf is front hood, side fenders, lights $2500

I called geico up and they said they cover damages to the rim and all ... like if I went over a pothole and it cracked the rim. The tire itself is a performance tire. I'm in Indianapolis area and its no where as bad as NJ.

So just trying to get a feel of what other folks do. So you're not getting it but if you were keeping it long term what other stuff would you get?

A "Full" nose of PPF costs $1,900, partial full nose $1,500, and a regular nose $1K. I may split the difference and get the partial full nose since it covers the hood completely.

We're still talking just "protection" mods here, right? If so, mud flaps. I picked up a full set of CF mud flaps recently for about $150. The other protection mod I might go with is a ceramic coating...another $1,200....

Recommend a 3m automotive film. I had my entire 2021 X5 and 2022 m4 competition convertible wrapped. I don’t worry about bird droppings, chips, road debris of any kind. Provides me peace of mind

Yeah! just talking protection stuff right now

So none of you guys is getting any kind of "wheel protection" because insurance will cover potholes or whatever?

Regarding 3M ... just feels kind of cheap for internal and external protection. The pamphlet just talks about protection film which will keep the vehicle looking new.

I drive high miles and am daily driving my G83 so I purchased the extended warranty and the maintenance plan which covers me up to 100K miles. I can easily afford the monthly payment, an unexpected $1500-2000 repair not so much.

But what's the deductible? Likely your standard comprehensive deductible. I got the wheel/tire package from the dealer but only because NJ has horrible roads and it paid off big time on my previous F30.

Why would one purchase extended warranties when buying a new car. You can get one before your factory warranty expires, so just wai till then in case you sell the car earlier, or it gets stolen or totalled.

Just to be clear, I don't plan on having the PPF installed or ceramic coating applied at the dealership. I will go to a specialty shop afterwards to have those done. The mud flaps I will install myself.

So basically, I don't plan on purchasing anything from the dealership other than the car itself....

hmm! what did it cost you (the dealer tire package) and also how many times did you get an issue with tire/wheel damage? mine the dealer is charging $1985 ... my deductible on the car insurance is $1000.

At the end of the day dealerships are trying to make money but I'm not going to spend even a dollar if its actually not worth it.

On my F30 I paid $1500 for 5 years and got 20 tires replaced so well worth the $$. On the M3 I paid $1900 for 3 years which i felt was decent value given the cost of wheels/tires and the shitty roads we have around here. In retrospect I would not have got it because I barely drive the car as I am WFH.

1. Tax purposes
2. I plan on keeping the car for five years and paying it off before I trade it in for a new car at, or near 100K miles
3. Fold the cost into the amount I finance/monthly car payment.
4. I got a sweet ass deal on both warranties!!

None of these makes any financial sense to me, but then I am not in your shoes. You know your situation best. GL.

Care to tell how much you paid for each?

I bought the Multi-coverage protection that includes Tire and wheels with cosmetic coverage,Dents, windshield and keys. $4k for 5 years. No deductible.
Looking at a wheel/tire replacement can cost you around $2k and probabilities are (by my past experiences) that any and all of that WILL happen, (maybe multiple times) for $60 bucks a month it's a no brainer to me.
