So with the awron I will essentially be able to hit the exhaust button and have valves fully open even in comfort mode?

Sorry with all the questions!
The Awron CanFlap is way more sophisticated than earlier generations, in which were simply software-only features programmed into the DGA vent displays.

In a nutshell - if you hit the center console button, the valves will open and close. And much much more. All of the features are described in the 1st post, feel free to PM or email me if you have any follow up questions on features or installation.

The asd button is always on upon startup, so is the awron setup to open the flaps when the asd button is on? Meaning you always have to turn it off if you want to start with the valves closed?

Posting a response I provided in PM that helps explain behavior of the AWRON unit.

Once AWRON is installed, think of the sound control button in the center console as a toggle between "force open" and "force close". In the "force open" position the GUI allows you to set an RPM range to keep closed. The only use case I see for this is to keep valves closed on cold starts where you would set the RPM range to keep closed between 0 and 1500. Of course you don't have to specify a closed rpm range and it will always be 100% open when the button is on.

With the button off ("force closed") you can override via the GUI to open above a certain RPM range or throttle position. I prefer to keep my button off as the default but then specify the valves open above 5k rpm or throttle above 70%. This keeps things quiet under normal driving but fully open if I go WOT. Of course I can hit the button on at anytime ("force open") and valves will stay 100% open (or in my example above closed at idle rpm). In my opinion, this is appropriate for louder exhaust setups like fully catless.

AWRON is an established and growing company specializing in the development and installation of intelligent technical applications for race track enthusiasts. AWRON products range from plug-and-play on-board displays to advanced OBD systems or tailor-made tuning packages that increase the power and performance of your engine. All Awron products are manufactured in Germany and meet the highest quality standards both in terms of raw materials and processing.

New to the product lineup is the AWRON CANFlap - the first Smart EVC controller for Exhaust Sound at the touch of a button! No more fumbling with key FOBs or extra clutter taking up your interior space. OEM CAN-based operation allows you to open and close the exhaust flap at any time by using the existing exhaust flap button in the center console.

Features
- Exhaust Valves are fully controllable via Sound Control Button (center console) using factory CAN commands for complete exhaust valve flap control
- Full Control over your Exhaust Valves. Enjoy the rumble of your engine!
- Sound Tuning: Factory ASD (Active Sound Design: artificial exhaust sound via the speakers) can be deactivated
- Auto Start-Stop Deactivation: Permanently set whether MSA is enabled or disabled
- Auto-Bypass Mode when Diagnostic Equipment is plugged into OBD2 port
- Configuration via Windows PC software and USB connection
- Integrated Exhaust Flap Safety Mode
- E1 E-Mark/CE Certification

Operation
- Factory mounted Sound Control Button (center console) allows you to open and close the exhaust flap at any time, regardless of Sport mode.
- Integrated Panic Mode allows for instant valve closure by pressing both M1/M2 buttons with visual confirmation on instrument cluster
- SmartMode prevents accidental valve closure over 50mph

With the AWRON CANFlap control, you have full control over your Exhaust Valve Controller (EVC) at any time. One press of the existing Sound Control/Exhaust Flap Control button and the flap is operated independently of Sport mode. This allows you to fully open and enjoy the sound of your BMW - whenever you desire. The selected exhaust flap position is recalled after restarting the vehicle (memory function). In addition, the flap control has a "safety mode" in which the flaps remain closed at speeds of up to 50mph.

When you purchase the AWRON CANFlap control for BMW, you get an exclusive product that will provide pure and unique driving pleasure. PC configuration software is provided to adjust the variable functions of the EVC controller and when the valves are opened or closed. For example, valves can be set to activate at a preset RPM or pedal position.

The AWRON CAN exhaust flap control also has an integrated "safety mode" that can be activated by pressing the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel simultaneously for 3 seconds. When the safety mode is activated, the exhaust flaps remain closed up to a speed of 50mph. A BMW gong sounds and the message "TRIGGER" is displayed in the combination instrument display to indicate that the safety mode is activated. If the safety mode is no longer needed, it can be deactivated by pressing the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel again or through a key cycle.

No error messages are generated in the error memory of the engine control unit. AWRON's BMW flap control is automatically deactivated when a BMW tester is connected to the vehicle OBD2 plug and non-detectable from factory equipment.

User-configurable example of set exhaust valve operation method:

PC based Software configuration for valve operation, flash configurable via USB

Functions
No key FOBs or mounted switches to fumble with. All control is via center console or shifter paddles. Modules can be updated via USB as new features or changes are introduced.

Most. ASD deactivation not yet a feature in ID8 but will be released in a future firmware update when completed.

No deadlines, but it is being worked on. Awron is on summer break until September.

Good news is that firmware updates are easily flashable to the unit.

Is this essentially the same as the LEIB CAN exhaust pro?

It seems to do all the functions of the awron.

Not really, there's a lot of non-exhaust related filler in there. Also at almost 2x the cost with less features (no GUI) and no update port.

Awron is still a much better value.

In the software configuration, below AKS check box, there is a check box for Deleter function. What does that do?

Reserved for cat delete (track use only). We haven't bought it up initially since the function is not yet applicable on US vehicles.

Also, per the description, it says, "The selected exhaust flap position is recalled after restarting the vehicle (memory function). How do you enable this?

This is by default. The selected flap position is retained by the module's memory function.

I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure on my vehicle, with the valve closed (green light off), if I turn it off, when I restart the vehicle, it starts with the valve open (green light on).

Ok, just confirmed. If I have the vehicle on (engine running) with the exhaust valve closed (green light off), then turn off the engine, the next time I start the vehicle, the exhaust valve is open (green light on).

I just want to confirm what I think this can do.

Two modes.. both modes are programmable anyway I want? I have have one set to 25% open and the other 100%?

Can the emergency mode be programmed? It would be sweet if the double press opened them 100% and have the asd button control two civilized modes.

2 profiles are available for the center console Sound Control Button (ASD), in both Open and Closed modes. You can program to hold the valves shut at low throttle and then open at a particular RPM or pedal position.

You're able to set different OPEN and CLOSED valve profiles, and predefined pedal positions in the GUI. The Panic feature would not be a good idea to use as a mode, as this completely shuts down the control, with the TRIGGER message and audible warning gong to indicate you are in this mode. This is especially an issue in Germany in which some speed cameras are equipped with microphones now and issuing noise tickets.

The idea of the valve controller is to get away from the valves opening at anything other than 100%, which is what the M3/M4 haphazardly does, without ever fully opening. the Awron module solves this while giving full control of the valves independent of Sport mode at either 100% open or fully closed with the added predefined profiles.
